99 mustang cobra vs 01 camaro ss
i have a friend who just did a motor swap from a 99 cobra to a 2000 mustang v6 the mustang has 8.8 rear end wth gears and 5 spd manual. my car is an 01camaro ss A4 with the slp package 3.23 gears. do you think the race will be close or will either of us have the edge.

I believe this is in the wrong section. It should go in the bench racing section, but im no mod so im going to say the out come will be you by a car maybe more. Then again i dont know a whole lot about older cobras.

Hugger is right. BIG difference from 3.73's to 4.56's in a mod motor. 4.56's make it down right nasty out the hole. My wife had a 01' z28 (a4) with 3.42's and went 13.7 stock. I'd have to say that the mustang may edge you out but the driver could suck, you never know.

While I agree with most of you that the SS should win, I think this is might be a little closer than what some of you think. You're basically running a Mach 1 if he swapped in a SRA.

I will say what everyone is scared to say here on ls1tech, you are going to lose. If the mustang has any mods besides gears. I really think the gears are whats going to let him win. I have seen alot of mach 1 and cobra's race ls1 cars and win do to gears. ONLY IF HE CAN DRIVE. If you do a roll ask for a 40+ and you will come around him in the top in.

Assuming you're both able to launch, shift and drive with some skill... you should win by a car length, if not better.
The very first race I ever ran was against an old co-worker of mine who bought his 1999 Mustang Cobra brand new just a few months after I got my T/A. Rio Red, great looking car, we always parked together at the office. Mine dynoed 317 to his 242 from the factory. Ford recalled the car for a factory fix, because SVT admitted the car was weak from the factory. Post fix it made 264, still a long way from my car bone stock right down to still having the skip-shifter back then. We took this friendly grudge match to the track with our office one Friday night not long after that... I beat him three times, and got hooked on drag racing back then. I did a 13.16@106 best to his 13.8... can't remember his mph. I clearly had him. Never let him hear the end of that. He sold the car a while later when one of the other engineers I worked with bought a black '00 WS6. Good times.
