Default loud ticking

i just put some 243 heads on my 2000 T/A. with stock cometic gaskets, ls2 lifter trays, ls7 lifters, and hardened 7.4 pr. still have the stock cam. i have read that you should run 3.375 with these heads and the ls1 cam. i would think the ls7 lifters would compensate for that little extra lenght. but i am now lead to believe that one of the lifters has gone bad... even though they are brand new :/

here is a video

could be either a lifter or a rod bearing , ,,,,,,,,with it running put You're hand on the oil pan ,,,,,,,,if it's a rod bearing You should be able to feel it on the oil pan and/or is it considerably louder on 1 side ? if it is , then most likely a lifter. Also You can take off the valve cover on the side that it's louder if it is louder on 1 side and with it running the noise will be really loud . But ultimately there really is no 100% absolute way of knowing until You take it apart or You completely spin a rod bearing . Good luck

the ls7 lifter being a different height than ls1 is false. the overall heights of plunger to roller are nearly identical. the lifter cup appears higher because the body of the ls7 is slightly shorter.

are the 243's heads off of a z06? the actual z06 heads have slightly longer valves to compensate for the smaller base circle of ls6 cam so that different pushrods werent needed between motors.

Defiently sounds like a lifter. Had the same problem a few months ago. Lifter spent in the lifter tray and shattered the roller. Sound almost identical to mine & never lost any power.

the sound is definitly louder on one side. and it doesnt have the z06 valves in it. do you think running the 7.4s with the ls1 cam would cause premature wear or something to fail?
