Why FAST 90's and 92's used and no longer made are selling for the price of a brand new never used 102? I have looked around tech and noticed people think that because it is no longer made, it is now valued at some times more than what it cost brand new and you can get a brand new FAST intake for the same price.
I understand supply/demand and people pay the price, but does anyone else even wonder why people pay the prices instead of waiting for the sellers to realize they are on drugs and should come down to half the price for the product if not less, like I could see $450/$500 for a used 90 or 92 FAST, but anything over is ridiculous since they sold for $900 brand new without a TB. Anyways just tossing discussion up for the West coast.

Its the new Ls6 intake, if they sold for 450 used, they go quick. So why not sell it for 600 quick, public still fed off that high price and it climbed. If they buy it, they will sell. It sucks butt.

some people aren't interested in getting new fuel rails either, they would rather just bolt up the 90/92 and go on about their bussiness.

I have yet to see a FAST 90/92 go for $800-1000 which is what a 102 cost. I think $500 is avg, thats what i sold mine for. LS6 intakes are still going for $300-350.

i looked into running a 102 and theres alot involved. a new top end basically, and possibly a new waterpump cause so much grinding is involved. only real benifit to a 90/92 as stated earlier is that it works with all the stock crap. no need to a certian shape injector, or relocating the map sensor, or aftermarket fuel rails, etc.

No this is some people having this issue, i looked into it as well it is not everyone having it. At any rate you just grind a little bit of the intake and be on your way, the MAP sensor goes in the back you just have to remove the lower part at cyl #7 to not drill into it.
Nate I saw a 90 sell for $900 a couple weeks ago, the average price on here that I have seen over the last few months is $700-$800, a few hit the $900-$950 range hell some guy had a NW 92mm TB and FAST 92 for $1150.
I just find it interesting, heck some auto parts prices have gone up as well, 5.3 heads are up to around $200 to $250 on ebay, thats just ludicrous lol.

Think FAST needs to start making them again. Here is ported 90/90 on ebay starting at $1,400 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FAST-Intake-Manifold-90MM-90MM-TB-Camaro-Trans-Am-GTO-LS1-LS2-/280742446126?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item415d8dc42e

Along with all the hassles mentioned already about the 102, I've heard it is a bitch to tune with that huge TB. I paid 1k for mine, less the 350 for the LS6, so I am looking at 650 for my FAST 90/90.

Damn. Well I don't like ripping people off especially fellow gm enthusiasts. Those prices are crazy. When I sell something I look for a balance of making of few bucks but helping someone get a good deal too. Some people will sell you a spray painted turd if they could.

The market/buyers dictate the price, not seller asking price. Like you said, people are paying those prices, so that is what they are worth.
Plus, the thread now includes all the reason why it is worth the price or more of a 102. Your only help is if FAST or a competitor begins to produce new 90s.
There's your new business, it can't be hard to copy that FAST intake. Adam's 90/90 has a nice ring to it!

Yeah Fast 102 go for ~$800-850 all day on ebay, with free shipping. Once i start on my spare motor it will get a 102 intake, i'd rather pay slightly more and not deal with the hassle of people's insane expectations of the price used parts will fetch.

Another ridiculous sale are LS3 heads. Everyone want $600+ for a pulled off set of heads, with miles. I can get brand new heads for $300 each, fully dressed (minus the stands and rockers).

Yeah I have noticed 5.3 heads jumped up too on ebay they are over $100 for a set now, for a while they would sell at like $100 sometimes less, now guys put the buy it now for $150 and some as high as $200, well last I checked this past week. Kind of feel like selling my heads now haha.

I'm looking for a TA hatch with high rise wing for a project my body shop guy and I are planing for the Firebird community; so I check craigslist and there's a guy on there that is selling one for almost $400. I tell the guy that he would be lucky to get $100 for it and that most of the guys here on LS1Tech get sick of holding on to it and just toss them with the trash. So I offer him $50, one of the last prices I've seen one go for on here, and he emails me back telling me to shove it, lol... I just wrote back say to enjoy collecting dust on his sold gold hatch.
There's a guy in the classifieds now trying to sell a used MS4 cam for $320. Now I'm sure it will sell, but I paid $275 for my used MS4 and it had only dyno time on it. Then you have guys selling T56 with issues for $1000+, I mean come on!

Yeah seriously I bought my 228R cam and 241 heads with patriot gold springs for $300 with roughly 800 miles on the cam and very low miles on the heads, heck the heads were even milled .042" with no other work done.
People are thinking they can sell fbody parts for that much because they see vette parts sell for that much and since they are all the same they must be valued as such lmao.
Heck I wanted to trade my built auto with fti stall for a t56 about a year ago (the first time I tried the trade) and some guy PM'd me and said he wanted cash on top, I was like umm my trans is built yours is used with over 50k miles on it. Needless to say no transaction occurred haha.

Like with the LS3 thing I post about above, I won't post openly, in someones thread, that I know where to get brand new fully dressed LS3 heads for $300/ea because - 1) it rude and 2) I'll have my box filled in no time asking where they can find them too - so I just PM the seller about it and they get pissed that I'm low balling them! How about I get pissed that you're trying to rip me off! lol.. some people :eyes:

Youre obviously moddifying your car but the parts were never ran? I dont know, i dont buy most of those stories. A few may be honest but im sure its a small minority.

Only thing on F Bodies is reaching those last couple intake bolts and relocating the map sensor I believe. You only need to grind a bit off the water pump corner if running a 102 or bigger tb. I might remove my 102 for service tomorrow, cleaning out oil thanks to a crappy pcv, and if I do I'll take some picks of where I grinded material from the water pump so you can see its pretty easy. In fact i just used a file. Other than that its almost the same as installing a regular intake.

I spoke to one of my customers who works primarily with rubber, but has the tools to do the pressing.
He said initial capital would be $30-40k to produce a mold. If its off-patent, then copying won't be a problem.
Next, I am going to ask him for contacts in the mold-making biz, see what info I get.

After the cost of r&d and production plus realizing that most enthusiasts won't but an intake from a no name company on top of the lack of demand I think you'll find that the intakes you make will need to sell for WAY more than a FAST. LOL. There's a reason big companies that have been around for a while still go under.
LS1Adam84
09-30-2011, 01:53 PM
$30 to $40k ? How many would be produced or is that just for making a single mold?
C5natie
09-30-2011, 02:35 PM
I believe he said that's just the mold. Especially if its a multi piece setup. It's not cheap at all. That why only a few companies even make intakes for LS motors. I say money is in making an affordable individual throttle body intake. Those are bad ass and make (support) a ton of power not to mention awesome throttle response. They cost $3000-6000 and are mostly In Australia or Europe. Those would be easier to reproduce out of sheetmetal. $1000-1500 they'll sell like pancakes.

If I understood correctly, the one mold could be used to press both pieces. I know nothing about the process, I only brought it up to a customer, who is a car guy, and coincidentally had the tooling.
Making the math simple, selling at $700, at 50% margin, you'd need to sell 100 to break even. If that math were correct, someone would be doing it.
Best bet would be to contact a Chinese company that would produce exact replicas down to the FAST name for $200 and sell them as "real". Then chance you won't get caught. :secret2:
