Depends how much money you want to spend. You can send them to get ported which can cost upwards of around $1000. Or a cheaper alternative, you can just get them cleaned up, get a nice valve job and have them milled some. You don't know the true mileage on them so a new set of valve springs would be good also.

At a bare minimum, I would at least replace the valve springs before putting them on.

What kind of valve springs would i use, there are different springs out there and what about rockers and i know to use Ls7 lifters also. I was thinking of useing a 224R or 228R cam these heads should be a good match for them right?

with either one of those cams you should get at least a .600 lift spring like the comp 918s or the PAC 1218s. Stock rockers are great especially when combined with the comp upgrades.
i am going with the 228R and 243 heads on my 00C5.

looks like he also has another set up for $360 as well, sounds like a good deal and he has a 100% rating so he seems legit

not to high jack your thread but I was also debating this. I already have a ms3 with dual springs, I can just swap everything over including the rockers correct?

stock rockers (ls1/ls6 are the same) with the comp cam trunion upgrade. stock rockers can be found for 25 bucks and the comp upgrade is 130.

I bought a set of 243's from that seller. It took a couple days to get the heads shipped off to TEA. TEA went through them before they started the work and the heads checked out fine.

I bought a set from him 2 months ago for $350.00. I am going to send them to AI or TEA, but haven't done anything with them yet. They arrived clean, well packaged, and seem to be in good shape.

There is another guy on there out of Missouri that sells "new" 799/243 heads. He is just south of Springfield, MO. He gets new engines from GM that have been kicked out of production for defects such as stripped threads on block plugs, etc. He disassembles the engines and sells the blocks, heads, etc. I got my set of heads for $400 shipped IIRC. They were brand new but the block they were on failed head gasket sealing test. Heads had some minor scrapes on the sealing surface. I will have to have them shaved but they are literally brand new heads. The valves still have the paint marks on them! He sometimes has the "make an offer' enabled. Easy guy to get along with and his desription on my heads were upfront and better than described.

I'm wanting to start my first build here real soon, plan is to use 243s. I'm interested in the heads that this guy from ebay you all were talking about is selling, I don't want to come off as stupid ( just paranoid), but this guy says in the item info..

2 - USED CHEVY GM GEN III 5.3 5.7 6.0 CYLINDER HEADS CASTING NO. 12564243,

"THESE HEADS WERE REMOVED FROM A 5.3 ENGINE, THESE ARE THE SAME HEAD CASTINGS USED ON THE LS2 AND LS6 EXCEPT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE SAME VALVES (valves are the same size) OR SPRINGS,"

The part about.. "They do not have the same valves (valves are the same size) or springs"

I'll be getting new springs for cam but can I use the valves on the heads already?
