Default 30 spline 10b Diff and axles?

I'm looking to find a 30 spline Eaton diff and axles to match for my 10b housing..... All i've been finding is 28 spline.

This is a street car, and my stock rear has lasted me almost 9 years. I don't drag race, no slicks and I have no intentions of side-stepping it. I know what my options are and I don't think I'd need a higher end rear right now. A built 10b will be fine.

^ I was told to look for 30. I didn't know they'd make it for the 10b, but then again I never really looked into it. What's stock? 28?

Never seen an aftermarket 30 spline carrier & axles available for our little 10 bolts.

You can do every single mod to a 10 bolt and in the end the ring and pinion are the weak link. Having more splines is good but I don't think that would help that rear live any longer without it.

Since you have pre-determined how your using it, it make sense but if you plan on beating on it, plan on it not lasting. And it would suck to put ANY $$$ into that rear, just to have it either be respent for a 8.8, 9", or 12 bolt or respent fixing the 10B again.

Remember there is a bigger 10 bolt, the 8.5 I believe. Maybe they have them for that and thats where the confusion took place.

Probably exactly what happend, since there were different flavors of the GM 10 Bolt but unfortunately each one is fitted for a different car and not all GM 10 bolt though are fitted with the same/similar suspension points which then requires fabrication.

If that is the case and I wanted an alternative then I would start looking at a Ford 8.8 but the cost is short of a 12 bolt so its not that much of a savings unless you do your own work and have the set up already.

Sucky world.

My rear should live fine the way I drive it. It's only been to the track once and I have three passes on it. I've had the car since 2003 with this same rear in it. I don't have a problem with it, other than a bent axle. It would make sense to just replace the diff and axles before doing gears. Slapping on a set of gears with a bent axle is just asking for it. Not to mention since I'm already in there, mind as well do it.

I'd almost like to try to find a c-clip elimination setup, with a pressed bearing and retaining plate.

I may see how much $ I can put away weekly into a "12b/S60 fund" With the axles, gears, dif and c-clip elim, it may end up running over $1300.. That'd be a down payment on a 12b/S60.

^^This is the problem I recently ran into sadly. I was working on an 8.8 for my car, but I don't like any of the TA mounts I have seen made. I may try to build one yet, but I have a feeling I would break it. I killed 2 rebuilt 10 bolts, one with 3.73 gears and the last with 4.10s. I now have a little over $1000 into the 8.8 and now I'm looking at 9" axles I would really like to keep the 8.8 in there since I have the watts all welded up on it, but we shall see what happens

I say that its worth saving for a 12B/S60/9" rather than spending money on the 10 bolt, but thats just my experience

I have the 8.6" 10 bolt in my trailblazer and it has 30 splines.

The original 8.0" 10 bolt that was in it had 28 splines like the weak 7.5" in the fbodies.

Before anyone asks, I don't think the 8.5"/8.6" 10 bolt would work well in an fbody. Sure, you can get it for cheap (I paid $325 for one with an open carrier, there is a fairly large aftermarket available for them however), and it is pretty durable, but it has upper and lower trailing arms instead of two LCAs and a torque arm, the width is probably wrong too I'm guessing... by the time you fab up enough stuff to make it fit you could probably get a better rear axle to begin with. Though it does intrigue me...

You can use the same method as the 8.8 to swap the older/larger 10 bolts in, but by then why bother? Use the larger and more common diff from the start

Why are you spending that much on a budget axle? The point of using an 8.8 is its stupid common, stout, and can be built for the cost of custom axles. Heck, mine hasnt broken $100 for the whole conversion! And Ive been beating the snot out of it without the first whine, grind or pop

Well since you asked I built mine, not some POS from a JUNKyard.

Housing- $100
31 Spline Carrier- $50
Cobra Carbon Clutch Pack- $110
31 Spline Alloy USA Axles- $225
Cobra Brake Kit- $175
Calipers- $80
Caliper Brackets- $40
Brake Hoses- $25
Hawk HPS Pads- $40
Rebuild Kit w/Bearings- $100
Setup Gears- $100

And I have $1045 there give or take a few dollars here and there. Then there's the MWC watts link at $600, and a TA mount that I haven't built yet, but plan on starting soon and I have a build 8.8 that shouldn't break. Or I could have spent $2500+ on a 9" so I still think I'm on a pretty good "budget" rear end build

^ Yeah. I don't want to fab anything, and I never cared for the look of the built/fabbed 8.8's. No offence to anyone, but it just didn't strike me as something I really wanted.

I think I'll find a sponsor for a 12b/S60 and see what we can work out. Any suggestions on a Strange Sponsor/Dealer? $1200 into a 10b is more that I want to spend on it. If I could get gears axles and a diff for $600, I would do it.. But unfortunately parts aren't that cheap and cheap an't that good.

Totally agree with you there. I was going to ditch the 8.8 and go to a 9", but I could also rebuild the stocker again and cross my fingers, but I'm tired of that to be honest. I want something that I can thrash and not worry about hurting. And the 8.8s don't really end up looking pretty LOL

Good luck

The TA mount is a piece of cake if you're that far along. Hardest part of the conversion is aligning and welding the axle tubes properly. Whats all this talk about it looking good/bad? Whos going to see it? Are your welds that terrible?
