Default Has anyone actually run a comp turbo on an lsx?

Ok I'm having a hard time figuring out why my forged 370 with a comp ct43 80/79 is choking up and not making good power.

I just got off the phone with another tuner who has used them and he said that turine wheel is way too small for a 370ci.

I know this is a newer company that isnt huge in the ls world. In having a hard time believing that its too small of a turbo

I see people with gts 76 making awesome power on 370s. Im no turbo pro but is the comp 80/79 not bigger? I even went with the billet wheel.

Any one actually use one of these on an ls type motor??

Yeah man I would think it would make killer power

They use a 100 trim 79mm turbine so the inducer and exducer are both 79mm

The gts uses a turbine with a 75mm exducer and 82mm inducer

You should take a pic of the turbine design, curious what it looks like

Its too bad you don't have a gts to throw on and see if the turbo really is your problem

You have your WG and BC all sorted out now?

At 7psi it made 490whp, 11psi 590whp. Only made power till 5100rpm. Locked converter,9inch car. It made that last year on a 347 tc78 setup and pulled to 5900rpm.

It's not valve float. When I get the time to get it back on the dyno to measure backpressure and cold side pressure drop I'll have a better idea of what's going on.

I have the T6 version of this turbo ordered. I took a chance on this company & paid a shitload. Hoping its not your problem for your sake and mine.

Stock Ported heads, 233/236 cam. Forgot which springs but they are really expensive duals.

The tuner comp told me to call because he has used comp turbos on ls1s did not seem to know much. He told told me I should swap out the billet wheel for a cast. No Idea what he was talking about.

Im hoping its somthing simple, this thing should really make killer power.

That turbine wheel is the old ITS R-trim turbine wheel. It is a no-no. You need at least an 82mm turbine minimum to support an 80mm wheel. To make real power an 80/87 would be the trick. We picked up 100rwhp going from an 83mm turbine to an 87mm turbine and spool stayed the same. Your backpressure is probably 3:1

If I understand are you saying that the turbine side is so inefficient and creating high back pressure that the compressor isn't flowing anywhere near it's potential?

That was my guess after seeing the dyno graph.

Did the graph flatten out? Climbing rpm but same power?

How does the 68mm turbine on the tc78 spin the 78mm wheel? Id think them being the same 79mm and 79mm would work alot better.

Why would they put an old wheel that cant make any power past 5k,rate the turbo for 1250hp and sell it retail for $2000 bucks. This makes no sense. Im going to have to have another talk with comp.

I got it for dirt cheap & thought I would give it a try and got lucky. The turbo/engine is a match made in heaven for street use. If I was trying for an all out track car there is a lot better choices. But I can spool on the fastest arm drop and I am gone LOL.

Yes I am a chick that street races, ha ha. I don't want to say more but I guess if you need more proof I could do a quick video (in car) no engine pics. I will say that I run the 3.5" DP through the fender so it is short, maybe 2 feet?
How is your turbo 5 years old when Comp turbo didn't put its business together until late 2007?

The company is not even 4 years old yet.
