Default Got punished by a brand new SRT8 Challenger

Buddy of mine bought a SRT8 Challenger a few weeks ago and has wanted to spank my 02 SS ever since. I have some bolt/ons, exhaust , tune. I have dope on the car but we knew I could bust him on the bottle so this was a motor on motor race from a dig and a roll. We weighed his car and she is 4,120 with a little gas in it,,,my car weighs 3,420 with a qtr tank. he also had a 225lb passenger with him =I was alone. Both automatics on real street tires. From a dig I initially got a qtr car then that 470hp/470tq pulled right back by me and put about 2-3 cars on me. From a roll that 470/470 pulled me from 30mph to about 90 then he couldnt pull me from 90 to 120. My car dynoed 341.6 at the tires before the 04 Z06 cam install and has a little timing pulled for the spray so it can be a little sluggish but hauls the mail on the dope. The Z06 cam definately picked it up on the top too as it used to hit a wall around 57-5800. It now pulls hard up to 63-6400. I drove his car and it is very nice ,rides and handles good and you can feel the torque. He paid $50,500 for it and I do have a lot less $ in my car ==LOL The moral of this story---no more empty nitrous bottles===Spray it!!! The new SRT8 Challenger is definately faster than the first yr cars.

Yep==that is too much money. I would have bought a used Z06 that would smoke it and have lots of money in my pocket to spare.

You need a converter so bad it's not even funny. The Z06 cam is even more lazy on the bottom than your stock cam was. Get on it!!

Oh...good death

Good Death, Op...I guess..????
I am confused though. You have a camed LS1 with supporting mods and weighed in about +600lbs less and you lost that race?
On a good day with a good driver, I would give the SRT8 a high 12 in the 1/4 and trapping 108-111.
I would think that with your mods, you should be running the same if not better. How did he pull you by 2 to 3 cars unless his mph is that much higher.
I think you might want to look over your setup...it sounds like you slowed your car down a little, in my opinion.
If I am totally incorrect, someone let me know..

The OP's friend bought the 392 charger SRT8, not just a regular SRT8. The 392 is a bored/stroked SRT8 with alot more power= I heard they dyno in the 430rwhp range bone stock. Also, OP's choice of camshafts leaves alot to be desired: the C5 Z06 cam is tiny, only marginally bigger then a stock LS1 cam.

That is the first time for me as well. I have been and owned alot of nitrous cars. We have always called it "Nitrous, the unit, the button, the juice, the equalizer, the bottle" but never the dope. You learn something new everyday. Good death.

good races op

lol but lets not talk about what you could do with that kind of money because I would get out my check book and buy a 8 second fox for 20k and rape the **** out of nearly everything...

I agree with sticks and stones, nice setup on the LS1 but you need an MS3 or just a more aggressive cam

Good death, those new Hemi's make some steam from what I've heard!

The LS6 cams seem to make good power for a cam that sounds and drives 100% stock.

Oh. That is the new 6.4L motor. I have seen some videos on Youtube where some have run ETs around a 12.4. I guees I could see the OP getting beat than by 3 cars from a roll. In a roll race, the weight does not affect the acceleration "as much" as it would be from a dig due to the fact that the inertia has been reduced. I would have thought that the dig race would have been closer though due to the +600lbs.
I guess those new 6.4L are pretty nasty and not something to take lightly.

Default Dope

My car will not run in the 12s on a true street tire. Bottom 13s in the 100 degree heat spinning its *** off. Best 60ft it has ever done on street tires is a 2.00. Put the drag radials on it and its a different story. The car has run a 12.30 @ 119.5 mph on the "DOPE" on the street tires in the 100 degree hot *** Texas heat. 100 shot ! Its a little sluggish due to some timimg being taken out of the tune due to spraying it....better safe than sorry..its not a racecar. Look at the mph on the spray===almost 120===it pulls hard at the top. I put the Z06 cam and springs in it because it was cheap compared to the other options. As far as nitrous being called Dope====Ive had cars with nitrous on them since 1981 when hardly anybody had nitrous or made kits. The term "Dope" has been used for a LONGGGGG time around here. The fast and furious is all fantasy land guys. The car is pretty much stock. Next mod will be a convertor.

Default SRT8 Challenger

That car does have the 6.4 liter Hemi 10.9-1 compression with true dual exhaust from the factory and 470hp/470tq. The car has 1400 miles on it. I drove it and for a 4200lb tank It will move out. It felt quicker and alot more torquey than the 02 Camaro as it should. Its got a 3.92 or 3.73 gear in it too but also has those huge wheels on it. His brother has one of the first year SRT8 challengers with 425 horse and I out ran it. It wasn't nearly as quick as the new one is. 50k plus the Gen5 Camaros and Mulestangs were quicker ==they had to do something to it to pick it up.

I was going to say you should hit up tunedbyfrost and get a seperate tune for your nitrous and N/A. I bought a black box that goes along with the tune hes done for me and when i flip the switch to turn on the nitrous it will switch to the nitrous tune and then when i turn it off it will go to max n/a tune. That might help you out a bit and not sacrifice anything.
