Default Is this right?

I have some strange single adjustable shocks I went to put on my car over the weekend and when I tried putting them in I couldnt even get the threads started on the nut. You can see that it is significantly smaller and I am wondering if they sent me the wrong peice or do I have to run it without a bushing or something like that.

I'm not at all familiar with Strange shocks, so maybe I should keep my mouth shut, but sometimes I can't help myself, so here goes...

To me, it looks like there's some sort of "extender" that's been threaded on to the top of the shock. Are there different length extenders available for different applications?
