Grumble!! Can't find part for sell anywhere. Help!!
I am not looking to buy it from any where because I may need to help Identifying If I have the correct term for the part. I thought it was a Rear axle bumper but I could be wrong. Description is as follows: The bumper that screws to your frame directly above the rear axle to prevent in from hitting on another. On side has all the rumber missing and the other is old and rotten looking. I've been hearing it for a while now and it's time I replace it. The car is lowered so I hear it more often. Any ideas on a oem part number or after market

Pinion snubber????
Cars with torque arms, which the 3rd and 4th gen cars have, don't use pinion snubbers!
The OP is looking for a "bumpstop", and as far as I know, GM has discontinued them. Do a search here, as this subject has been heavily discussed recently. On my car, I used the Energy Suspension bumpstops that are originally intended for Jeeps, as have a number of others here.......

The OP is looking for "bumpstops", the cushions that prevent the rear axle from crashing into the frame, when the suspension goes into full compression.
A "pinion snubber" is a cushion that mounts of the nose of the differential of a leaf spring car, and helps prevent spring wind up and the resultant wheel hop. This happens when the axle rotates under the application of power, and the snubber contacts a pad that is welded to the floor pan. This stops the axle from rotating any further....

Don't listen to some of these people, they're still avaliable online from some authorized GM parts dealers. I JUST ordered a new set of OEM bumpstops from GMpartsdirect.com, they will be here on October 4th. They have them listed for $33.61/each + shipping. The part number is 10164173.
I asked about what bumpstops to get a few weeks ago and got mixed input so I decided to just get the stock ones again. People will tell you to go to the salvage yard and pull some off a 3rd gen. Others will tell you to get the Jeep poly bumpstops for $20, but others say that they aren't as cushy as the foam stock ones.
Ultimately it's up to you and how much you're looking to spend.
