Timing Chain Damper, who's runnen them?
just like the title says... Who's Runnen them? Who has swapped cam's and doesn't have a damper?
i've read several threads of broken timing chains and most if not all of those broken chains didnt have dampers.
anyone regularly race there motor without a damper?

Drag racing does not cause the same whiplashing of the chain.

2002 Ls6 block. It has the holes drilled for the damper. The new timing set I put on has some slack in it and also seems that the cam gear sits farther into the block than the crank gear (maybe. 006") so the chain looks slightly uneaven (vertically). This is making me worried and that's why I was asking about dampers

I got my dampner from Rock Auto Parts for $10. Application is 2005 Chevy Trailblazer w/ a 5.3L engine.
Put it on a 2001 iron block 5.3L. Didn't drill the holes all the way thru, shortened the bolts. Found the M8x1.25 tap at Home Depot. It was fairly easy to drill/tap and install since my engine is on a stand.

Just FYI ,,,,,,from what I understand the main reason t-chains break at least on the LSx gen 3's n 4's is running at a fairly constant high rpm like in road racing ,,,,,,,somewhere between 3500 n 4500 I believe is the "not so sweet spot" ,,,,it has to do with high frequency vibrations causing alot of harmonics ,,,blah blah ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Ya I got my LS2 timing set at RockAuto also but was $28 at that time ,,,,which was only about 6 or 7 mo ago . Yes I'm gonna probably pick up one of those dampers myself ,,,,,,,,can't be too cautious with these engines .

does anyone know the center bolt to bolt spacing on a LS1/LS6 damper and the center bolt to bolt spacing on the LS2 damper?
also i was thinking about the lack of timing chain vertical alignment and i think im all good and its normal,,, you have your crankshaft run out, your crankshaft end play, camshaft run out, camshaft end play and im sure all of that is playing a factor in my lack of chain vertical alignment,,,, im sure when its up and running those clearances will equal out.
