I want to put a true dual exhaust on my '00 T/A, but I can't get around this states emissions. How much power, if any, can I expect to lose with high-flow cats vs no cats at all? Can that be negated with cutouts before the cats? And can anyone recommend a good brand or model of high-flow cat? I'm looking at slp and magnaflow but I just don't know enough about cats to make an informed decision.

I had a buddy just add cats to his custom built y-pipe and he dynoed 3 rwhp less than when he had just a ORY. Not much power loss and his exhaust smell is much improved.

cats will rob 2-4 hp but that is hardly noticeable. I would recommend cherry bomb cats, I picked up both of mine for $55 each brand new.

^ i can answer that in a universal sense it will quiet the car a little and the cats will help with getting rid of rasp.

having the same exhaust on 2 cars, the cats make it much quieter around idle and SMOOTHER throughout the RPM range. An ORY can make an angry, hammer on metal noise without a muffler.

NO smell with hi-flow cats, as well. My ORY stinks now, I have been pondering replacing it, if I didn't love the volume so much.

i recently had my cats gutted on my H/C/I setup and gained around 7/7 after a tune.


high flows dont rob enough power to be concerned with and i enjoy a race gas type of smell.

I wish it was just visual. I would just have a set of gutted cats. Unfortunately in North Carolina they use the sniffer deal. :sad:

ahh ok, just curious though, if u took ur egr off and air system off and had stock cats would u fail the sniffer test? and wouldnt high flows fail sniffer too with these cars? idk just wonderin

No they don't.They do a visual for cats, egr and air and plug in to your odb II port and check the pcm for codes. I know because I live in NC too. You will have to get cat delete on pcm though....
