for a OEM pan. I would say the CTS-V is a good choice. F-Body is a very tight fit, The so called Muscle pan is really a H3 truck pan. would still have very low, IMO, not recommened.

If after market. .Cast, would be the MAST or Holley.

Steel, AutoKraft because of the intergraded Oil Filter provision.. most of the others require remote filter.

read the FAQ on pan.. just look at the A-Body Build Threads..

The filter is a nice feature, but where the Autokraft pan really shines above others is the baffling and trap doors for oil control. Short of a dry sump, I think this is the best option out there.

The advantage of the aluminum pans is a stiff fully machined rail which should help a lot with sealing.

Default best pan

The problem with the auto craft pan is its not as "strong" as the stock pan. Even Mast says the pan is part of the structural integrity of the engine. Just a thought.

I got the autokraft pan myself but I am using a ly6 that is an iron block. I think a cast pan is more important on the aluminum blocks.

Dont buy the Muscle Car pan/ Hummer pan, that stupid thing hangs way too low! How do i Know? Its in my Nova and sits 3Inches off the ground with nobody in the car.

ctsv pan will give you optimal clearance for depth and rear setback for the sump. With 1 in setback plates, id say that the ctsv pan will clear any stock clamshell mount/1in setback mount/gm rwd crossmember out there.

I guess it depends on what mounts you use..in the MCSS it's about 1.25" below the cradle. In the S10 the Cradle is below the bottom of the Pan.

My car isnt that low either so it works out..I'm not slamming it.

Ive got a half inch between the crossmember and the oil pan, i didnt notch the crossmember to get it lower. Still too low.

I had this pan on my 86 Monte SS and only hit the ground once when the car was loaded with 5 people and hit a large bump dip in the road at highway speeds.

My nova sits way lower, I cant get a floor jack under the crossmember without lifting the car up by hand a little.

I put the Holley pan in my '67 chevelle with SBC motor mounts and a tiny shim (1 washer) between the motor mount adapters and my poly motor mounts. Clears my inner tie rods, doesn't hang below k-member at all, uses same OEM filter as my '07 suburban, rear of pan provisioned for bellhousing, etc. No complaints, nice piece.

Here is a pretty good thread discussing oil pan pro's and con's- https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...e-oil-pan.html. I used the Autokraft pan and it has been great so far. There are some pictures in that post of my Chevelle showing the pan's clearance underneath the car to give you an idea. It is installed on an LS1 and I have had no issues relating to the lack of structural rigidity of the pan and leaks.
