Default Smallest Cam for LS3 416

Kind of the opposite question most people ask. I have an 01 WS6 Vert Auto. I am building a 416 with stock LS3 heads. Will have full exhaust mods of course. What i would like is this motor to idle and drive as close as possible to the stock LS1 that is in it now. Torque is more important to me than all out horsepower. Now I am not a dyno junkie by any means but to ballpark my expectations i would like 450 RWHP.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Is it forged?

Why such a motor then?

Just trying to see your method of your madness.

Yes its forged. This engine will be modded with better heads and cam in the future and put into a different vehicle for a different purpose. For now I want it to be a nice torque monster to pull my convertible around nicely. That is the plan, and will be the plan.

Thanks

Call some of the larger shops that sponsor here. I bet you can find a stock take out LS3 cam cheap.

If you want a stock LS3 cam I'll sell mine. It is from an 09 Vette with 18K on the motor.

I was hoping someone would have some experience with a small cam for this type motor. Don't want a stock ls3 cam. Something more suited for a stroked engine. Kind of like the hot cam except a better grind. I know stroked engines can take more cam and retain stock like idle characteristics. Anybody run something like this?

Most of us that have 416's don't want a small cam to go with our stroker so it might be difficult to find such a setup. The GM hot cam might be your best option.

Something along the lines of a torquer 2/3 would be small for those cubes. Those are in the low 23x/23x.

Id say an ASA cam! It's got a nice split low lift and a tight LSA I think that will do it! Just my .02

I'd say get Patrick G or Geoff @ EPS to spec you a cam.

Or just call comp, for free. They are the experts just tell them your application.

Call Geoff at EPS. He will spec a cam specifically for your set up. I purchased a custom grind for my 428 build. He is great to work with.

I was actually thinking that too. Has anyone used this cam in an LS3 stroked or not?

Default Have one spect out....

For your specific combination, is only $25. from Patrick G, and he'll have you fill out a long questionnaire, about every specific detail, then make some specific recommendations, based on your combination, of other issues you may not be aware of, in you parts combination and so on; based on your overall best interest, and desires/goals, Pat will make a recommendation for your cam, just go with what ever he tells you, you will love him.

stock LS7 cam if you want something cheap.
226/230 115 +2
That's basically what I have in my car. Very tame on my stock cube LS3. Add in your extra cubes and good tune will have it idle like stock at 700 rpm or less.
