Default Dye or paint for interior plastic peaces?

Which is better, dye or paint? I was told that dye will actually soak into the plastic and not fade, chip, or peel like paint.
I just need to paint or dye the interior same color (ebony). Kinda fading.
Got good condition ebony panels @ the junk yard just to find out that the junk yard panels are just a bit darker, so I figured what the heck, I'll just paint or dye the panels and learn.

I never heard about the dye (which i might have to try on my Lincoln) but I did paint and im all good with it. 2 kids, daily driver and its still looks good after 2 months. no matter what you decide to do, its all in the prep. i cleaned with a citrus degreaser, washed everything with dawn dish soap (wonderful) and dried thoroughly. Its all user preference though.

Dont paint or dye anything. I painted mine and took alot of much time preping it. Now a year later it looks like **** and i rarely drive it and take care of the interior.

I had great results using SEM Landau Black with a Satin Clearcoat. Did a color change from charcoal to ebony about 16 months ago and it looks perfect so far. There is a prefessional aerosol cleaner from 3M that I used as prep and am very happy. Be patient, light coats, follow temperature requirements on the can and you will be good.

I was going to try this, but I never got around to it. Let me know how it works!
