Default Budget Heads...

Ok im looking at buying some budget heads for my car, mods are in my sig. Im looking at either the PRC stg 1 LS6 heads or the PRC stg 2.5 5.3L heads. It looks to me the LS6 heads flow a little better but the 5.3 heads bump compression more. I plan on running stock head gaskets and I'm not milling either head because I don't want to mess around with new pushrods. Im leaning towards the LS6 heads because we only get 91 octane pump **** up here and im worried the 5.3 heads will bump the compression enough where I will have to pull timing. Any opinions on what I should go with?

Get the ls6 heads 4 sure. The 5.3's are 63cc+ after the chamber work anyway so not as much of a cr advantage as most people think...

Take off your 241 heads from your 01 and send then to AI, a bit of a mill and you'll get very nice returns.

I thought about that for a while but it looks like the PRCs still outflow the AI 241s and depending on if my valve guides are bad or not could mean they are going to cost more than the PRCs.

Both are good heads but don't get caught up in the flow numbers. What cam are you running that will determine alot on head choice?

Most EFI motors don't have problems with valve guides.

I'm running an EPS 226/234 .598/.601. Pretty much just looking for the best bang for the buck. I already have hardened pushrods from when I did my cam swap so If I get my 241s done at AI won't I have to get shorter ones because the heads will be milled? With the PRCs I should be able to just bolt them on with a stock headgasket? Correct me if I'm wrong. I've heard good things about AI, does anyone have any dyno numbers or timeslips with AI 241s? I've seen what the PRCs can do but I don't see a whole lot on the AI 241s.

I am in the same position as you and I spoke to both Texas Speed about the Stage 1 LS6 heads and they told me I would see about 40rwhp gains with my trex cam and full bolt ons ls1 set up. AI told me if I have my 241s ported to their 219cc HCR I would see 45-55RWHP. I am going to trust them since I heard nothing but great things about them and have my heads sent out to be ported this winter. I will follow up with the results in the spring!

This website is filled with AI head results. Every one I have seen has been impressive. They are legit. Go poke around AI's site and you will see links to dyno results.

depending on your tune up your engine ECM will probably pull out timing any ways.

I've checked AI's website and they only have LTx numbers. From what I've read on here they are very good. Another question I have is even if the PRCs flow 300ish cfm on the intake side will that even do anything for me because the LS6 intake only flows around 275cfm correct? I refuse to buy a FAST, $1200 for an intake and TB isn't going to happen lol.
