Default Racing an automatic

Ive got an A4 trans am ive been told to race the quarter in 3rd not drive because it is easier on the transmission and faster. well when im in 3rd at 6000rpm do i push it into drive without letting off the gas or do i keep the RPM's just under the rev limiter?
what is fastest and what is easier on the trans mission also im thinking about getting a Jet shift kit can I race in D with that?

3rd IS drive (1:1). 4th is overdrive (.70:1).

Your times will be the same racing in either. Just don't try to manually shift it. I use OD because the 2-3 shift seems to shift with just a little less slippage that way. Doesn't really matter though.

I find that racing in D screws up my shift points. I race and drive in OD.
