I think it looks ok for the most part except the slight bronze coloring to the outside.

Just looks like superficial markings to me. I don't see anything that would alarm me. The stock cam in my LQ9 looked the same. It didn't have anything that felt rough to the touch, and all of the lifters looked fine. I would think the brown spots were just color stains from oil vapor. Everything in my motor was that color.

Doesnt look terrible to me, how do the lifters look??

Ive seen cams that look like that get a light polish and it totally removed the marks. Although its a lot easier to see in person if its bad or not.

Does it pass the fingernail test??

The pics were sent to me by a member here selling the cam. If he ever pulls it...I am getting impatient.

I need it to ship to my house ASAP and to my knowledge it is still installed in his car in Dallas. Said he couldn't find a pulley puller...not sure what the issue is I've used a 3 jaw puller in the past 3 times.

If he doesn't come through I guess I'll order a Torquer v2 from TSP unless someone has any other excellent advice on a good cam that can be on my door by next Weds/Thurs at the latest.

Looks fine to me. However, when a guy starts with the excuses, it raises a red flag to me; in more ways than one. I would pass on the cam. Plenty of guys on here, selling good used cams, that will bend over backwards to get it to you.

The cam looks ok to me as well. I hope you haven't paid the guy for it yet!

I shot Geoff @ EPS an email out of curiosity and he immediately called me in the middle of strapping a car on the dyno.

He asked me what I had and what I was doing with it and he spec'd a cam out for me and said he can put it in as a rush grind order with 2 day shipping.

He even remembered me talking to him several months back about my copy of his TR230 design. Great guy IMO.

230 (eps lobe)/ 238 (lsl lobe) I believe he said on a 113+2 will be coming my way and I can sleep easy. Going together with some mild ported 799s should make a nice SOTP and track difference for the Chevelle. Should also have good results with a shot if I decide to go that route one day too.

One thing I would never do is buy a used cam off someone. Please do yourself a favor and order a new one from a reputable company. What are you saving by going the used route, $100? Not worth it IMO

Well it would have been $230 saved. But yeah, I decided I was better off spending the extra and getting something an expert specs for me.

Nothing wrong with used cams IMO, but I was having trouble finding what I really wanted/needed. Everything coming up was too small or too big.

If anyone wants an awesome truck or daily driver cam, my current one will be for sale soon. Made peak power at ~5900rpm in my ls1 with tons of low end. Could be retarded a couple degrees to push power up like a TR230.

Good move on ordering a custom cam form EPS.
I expect you'll see a nice increase in power going from a 224* to a 238*duration on the exhaust lobes, plus it should sound nice with 8* overlap.
I look forward hearing a idle clip, and seeing a new dyno graph in the near future!

It will be a while. I will need injectors I'm sure and some tuning. I want to get it very well lined out on the street the best I can. Car was only doing 12.2@110-111mph before (I think the issue was valve float). I'm hoping to be solid into the 11s and trap over 115mph in similar conditions.

I think the heads and intake are going to love the change.

So are you going to go with dual valve springs with the new cam?

That cam is junk, look at the pits in the lobe above the good one. That's caused by using the "new car" or starburst engine oils, and high load valve springs.

Either use a performance oil such as Mobil 1 15w-50 or add a can of GM EOS at every oil change.

I have a set of Patriot gold duals I am going to measure and shim properly. Before I used PAC 1218s but we just put them on, didn't check install height or anything.

I'm excited about the new combo.
