It depends on what year the Monsoon CD player is from. The '97, '98, and early '99 Monsoon CD players will NOT control the changer. Late '99 Monsoon CD players are supposed to be able to, but no one can give a definitive answer on exactly when that switchover took place and they seem to be hit or miss on '99's will work. The '00-'02 Monsoon CD players will control the changer. However, the '97-'99 HU's were a dark gray in color and the '00-'02 HU's are an ebony color, so if you have a '97-'99 and install an '00-'02 HU, it won't match as it did before. My Z28 is a '98 and I'm anal, so to solve this problem, I found a malfunctioning '97-'99 Monsoon CD player that had a good face and then bought an '00-'02 Monsoon CD player and swapped the face from the '97-'99 so that it would match perfectly again.

What year is the car and what buttons don't work. Can you be more specific?

OK, still a little confused.

You said that your car has a monsoon tape deck with a factory 12 disk cd changer.

Did you mean that you currently have a tape deck and are thinking about changing the radio to a unit that will drive a 12 disk CD changer?

For the tune dial and 3, 4, 5 - are you double checking that you are in radio mode when you try to operate them?

My car has a factory Monsoon Tape deck(head unit) with the pioneer 12 disk factory cd changer. Im trying to figure out if I can put a factory monsoon cd player(head unit) that will still control the factory cd changer.

Get a 2001-2002 CD Headunit. It can control the factory CD Changer.

Ah - yes it will. My '99 came that way. (with a cd head unit, controlling the 12 disk changer) My car was one of the last off the line in '99.

Not sure if your original cd changer will work with an updated head unit, though.

My original post is still accurate...ALL of the '97-'02 F-Body Monsoon changers are interchangeable and ALL of the '97-'02 Monsoon TAPE decks will control the changers. However, the Monsoon CD HU's weren't able to control the changer's until very late in the '99 model run, but it's very hit or miss when getting a Monsoon CD HU out of a '99, so the best bet is to get one from an '00-'02, but the color will NOT match the '97-'99 HU's.

Yes. I should have just read the sticky and my answer was clearly in there
