Default 72 El Camino lm7 conversion gt45 plans...

Hi

Frist a little about me.
My name is Mads and I live i Denmark i have in the last 2 years ownd and driven a 72 el camino as a DD i the sommer, in denmark it is not normal to drive your classic us car more than 1000mils a year. but in the 2 years i have lade down close to 10000mils. i drive that thing all the time.
but becours my past car was a supercharge toyota Starlet. (complet track buildt) i now long for more power than the old 350 i making.
and rebuilding 55 year old tech is a no no in my book. I have had a 99 5.3 lm7 ship to my home.

first her is som foto of tha car as it is now.

it stands farlig stock and i like the look of it

one of me by the car, at one of the bigges car shows i Sweden

the interier,

grant wheel

and buildt in tach

and the old 350, it makes 230hp at the crank. and bleeds out evry gasket.

now to the plans.

the car has now
a 350 motor
th400 trans.
12 boldt rear whit 2.72
disk breaks

the plan is 5.3 lm7 whit this fuel system

stage 2 ems from retrotek speed on the stock intake paid 200$ for it her in Denmark
and a msd 6010 for the ignition.

now the reson for this is cost, all thinks i by online in the usa. I paid 2 times before i have it.
this is becors taxes in Denmark is made

for mounts i have this

energy suspension tall naro mounts and 0 plats

TD 1" setback plats think i will use this as i will put the motor in the stock sbc place

energi suspension trans mount.

i have ordert the holley oilpan kit yesterday so whating on that to com home.

trans:
keeping the th400 until a finde a 4l80e

rear: it has a lock diff in it now and the gear is good for the next upcoming plan. yes i am a boostoholic and it will get a turbo.
thinken of a gt45 but inputs a welcome.
a2w intercooler, had a frozenboost in my toyota and it worket good.

thats all for now. will be back whit updats soon

Mads that looks like a very solid car you have, nice shape and good door gaps.

Do you guys have Chevy dealers over there? Reason I ask is that you can sneak an F Body oil pan in that car and maybe save yourself some money & shipping cost.

Mads.. nice going over there. Seem like your going in the right directin. Let us know if you have more questions if we can help..

Question, are you going to keep the factory type of AC ?..

If you use those plates, they well come into contact with the AC Compressor on the LM7 setup. you well need to relocate or go aftermarket on a AC Setup, Vintage Air is my suggestion for aftermarket.. it well also clean up and be a much better system..

Keep us posted !

The Stock A-Body box will work. I still have mine in and I have connected it with modified AC lines to the LS1 compressor. I just wired the compressor up the the A-Body controls as it would have been stock.

It gets a bit tight near the passenger side head and HVAC box, I have to change the last two spark plugs from the bottom.

Question, Why F-Body headers.. ?.. there are other low cost Swap headers that would most likely fit better.

Some have been able to use F-Body header in a A-Body as is and other have had to modify them a bit (Collector). Being where you are. Why chance buying something you might have to modify or even return ?

Just a thought !

So time for some update...

motor is in

Sinds this build is in Denmark i got to use the parts i have.
but the truck intake is not a looker. but hers is my try to make it look good...

what do you guys think??

now to the small problems whit truck acc. chevy smallblock frame stands, tall/navro mounts, transdapt 1" setback swap plats, and holley oilpan

first ps pully is to big... smaller one ordre from ebay.

had to put 3washers at bouts sides to get the holley oilpan to clear the crossmember

but it just clears by 2mm so ordret the carshop 1" setback plats

new parts ordret:

msd 6010
carshop 1"setback plats
2 fittings for oilpressor and temp
ps pulley.
Pacesetter f-boby race headers
cast oilpan for my th400 trans. +2quaters + new filterkit
lokker gearcabel for stock shifter
new belt tensioner
polly bushings for front and rear suspension

will be back whit updates when i start putting parts on it..

Mads

Looks like you are certainly coming along! I like what you have done with the truck intake also.

Hopefully I will be in the same place as you very soon.

so update time...

so got the trandsdapt plats of and put them side by side whit the carshop plats.

but i still have to space the plats up to get crossmember to oilpan clearings

and this is the clearings i endet up whit just abouet 6mm

so boldt in setup is:
energysuspensions tall/naro,
stock 72 elcamino smallblock stands,
carshop 1" setback plats, whit 3 whasers,
holley oilpan,
this will set the motor in the stock smallblock lokation. and clear the crossmember.

now after 12 weeks on google and all the forums that i can finde, I can now say that this is a first.

a 94 buick roadmaster wagon lt1 gas tank in a 68-72 elcamino.
now this tank swap has been talk over but i can not finde one that has done it.
so this tank will go in my 72 elcamino and i will post all the mods and pics of the swap.

the winter is hear so ther will be som time to the next update.

Here comes another update.

I have fitted the headers today. They are made by Pacesetter, Race Versions for a 2002 Camaro LS1.

I've had som minor fitting issues that will be discribed and pictured.

I started with the left side. It rubbed a tiny bit on the crossmember, so it got hammered, approx 2mm.

On the right side, the headers hit the transmision. So I've cut a little corner of the transmision. You can se how much, from the pics.

Before cutting.

From the top.

From the bottom.

After cutting.

And done, fitted. Thats all the issues I've had. So nothing serious :-)
