Default Any one run a ball bearing turbo without water?

Just like the title says. Street driven car with a ball bearing turbo with just oil. If not why is it totally necessary to run coolant?
Do ball bearing turbos run hotter than journal?

BB turbos require less oil than journal bearing. There is not enough oil flow to cool the center section. You'll cook it for sure it you don't water cool it. Plus they are spendy so why even gamble with screwing one up?

I ran a bb turbo for two weeks w/o coolant. Its so easy to just run coolant. Why risk it?

I don't think most people run the coolant lines into the turbo with their ball bearing units. I ran a GT30r DBB turbo on my R1 for years with only oil. I don't think it's required... I had NO issues with the turbo whatsoever, was pushing 430rwhp.

I normally would agree with running coolant. I just got my comp ct5 80/88mm and its ceramic ball bearing but with no coolant provisions. I spoke to comp and they said its not necessary. They said to run it and not worry, it has a one year warranty.

I'm going to go for it, just seemed strange to risk such an expensive turbo with how easy it is to run water through it.

I'm debating the same thing, I've got a ball bearing turbo being rear mounted, I'm not sure if I should run coolant through it or not. On one hand, it will be cooler naturally being rear mounted, on the other hand it will have a restrictor on it and I don't want to cook the ceramic bearing. Running coolant lines for a rear mount is kinda a pita

Why spend the extra money for a BB? Especially if your only going to run oil. Makes no sense, just go with the journal bearing. Also, you will need an oil pressure restrictor. Maybe I am missing the bigger picture here. That sounds like crazy talk LOL

If it was designed to use water, then use it. It is there to help cool the bearings and housings. And generally the castings will be thinner. So if used without, there is more chance of a failure for various reasons.

Although a lot of the modern BB units dont require water. But they are also designed with this in mind.

Yes this one I would imagine is designed with out using water. Although the same turbo has the option of running water, they just sent mine out with out water provisions.

If there are no holes or waterways, then clearly it wasnt designed for water so will be fine.
