Default ls6 swap time

finally found a legit ls6 intake,

i'm gonna be following the ls1howto.com write up and install it today, and tuned later this week.

I know u have to 'sand' down underneath the intake so that its smooth

any tips or anything to consider would greatly be appreciated and wish me luck

Few tips that will help you is.

1- Use some Masking tape to hold up the rear intake bolts that cannot be pulled out due to the cowl. So Loosen up, pull up and tape.

2- Disconnect the Brake Booster hose and fish it around the back so it is NOT near the oil pressure sensor. I have never broken one yet.

3- Use a plastic fuel line disconnect tool, not the generic metal one offered at most OTC parts stores, they tend to break the inside lock and if you do break it, its 70-100$ at the dealership to replace.

4- Lift UP the intake and then pull forward, watch the MAF sensor in the back and fish the vaccume hose around

5- Buy the proper coolant cross over tubes to eliminate the one the goes over the valley plate.

its pretty easy, just watch out for the PCV hoses as they would be VERY dry now and will break on touch. as stated above, use tape to hold the bolts up. you could REALLY use another hand to help you route the brake booster while taking the intake out (to prevent opsu breakage) and most important of all TAKE YOUR TIME, TAKE YOUR TIME and TAKE YOUR TIME!

I got the ls6 coolant crossover and the 2 coolant plugs.

I know about the opsu, i diddn't know they were that fragile tho.

looking at videos online, they show alot of people chiseling away or even sand it down, i think its to make room for the crossover pipe.. from what i understand.

ive heard of people breaking them down with a chizle in order to get the ls1 coolant lines to fit.. I would just get the LS6 coolant/cross over kit w/plugs to do it.. The right way..

Literally did my swap on sunday.. Just waiting on my "frosted" PCM to come in the mail lol

goodluck

I just got mine done last night, took about 4 hours.

egr and air are deleted, put on new gaskets, ls6 cross over tube, and coolant block offs in the back. OPSU is working fine, however one of my friends ripped my pcv tube so i have to buy a 90 degree elbow at oreilys, no biggie, and while im there ill get an extra tube for a TB bypass while im at it.

I find it weird that my SES diddnt come on, maybe it got deleted already in my tune from before the swap? I really diddn't feel much of a difference between the 2 intakes, maybe cuz its not tuned yet, ill prolly do that tomorrow

You can drive it without a tune. In case you were wondering.

i thin you shouldnt feel a difference..the gain is minimal. even a gain of 10rwhp woudnt be that noticeable but dont worry you gained something it will gain more with future mods ie cam, heads etc..

I would get new gaskets if they are used. For 20 bucks it's cheap insurance against vacuum leaks. The gaskets are crush fit and if they have been on for awile they may not seal good.

Again YOU WILL BE PERFECTLY FINE.

The PCM has extra room for adding fuel due to increased air flow. IF they current tune is maxed out the the computer will pull back timing if it feels the need to.

Just a FYI most cars need tuning adjustments when they have added a Lid, (LS6 intake or 2001+ already had them) Long Tube headers and a Cat back. Which for the most part is 80% of the bolt on mods.

The point of the post was to say Do not be afraid the car will blow up if you start it, or even if you wish to move it or drive it.
