Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - Cam companies

Top 3 cam companies in your guys opinion... Lets hear em. I plan on getting 3 custom grinds.

I can't say top three, but in a lot of high horsepower non-street engines that I have seen tore down (dirt pull, top alcohol, and drag race) were all running Crower.

What are your goals with the car? I hate this question... Well, in this case I'm not necessarily after a set HP goal. Obviously the more the better, I'm more so interested in making sure that all the parts I have right now match well with each other and that I understand why. My only goals are PEAK POWER around 5500 RPM. That's it. I was hoping to have a discussion in my other thread but it doesn't look like it's gonna happen. So I guess I'll just buy a few custom cams, and then analyze the results afterwords and hopefully get a better understanding of the "how" and "why". I'll check Crower out and see what they recommend.

but Cam Motion has always done me right, mild to wild, .650-.950 lift.

Well the reason I ask is because while I'm sure Crower can spec you a cam, all of those motors rev way beyond 5500 RPM. You got to honest with yourself now before you put your engine together, otherwise you end up with an expensive POS engine that barely runs when you should be out enjoying your car.

Seriously man those engines I've seen tore down are over $25,000 in parts alone. And you can't even drive them on the street.

I don't mind answering I just don't know how to answer it anymore. Everything is relative to each other. Lets look at it this way... I've read that if you have the right cam installed only one thing can happen... Once it's installed you play with the tune.. Advance it, you lose power. Retard it, you lose power. So that has to tell you that no matter what else you try and do, results will suffer cause "SAID CAM" is right on the money. I guess I'll have to play around and see what cam my motor wants in the given RPM range I want.
