Default Am I crazy??? 2000 WS6 for a 97 WS6?

Call me crazy, but I have been toying with the idea of either selling my car or trading it + cash for a 97 WS6. Last year I pulled the engine and did a full rebuild other than the piston rods and piston heads (changed rings, crank, trunion upgrade, cam, oil pump, crank, 90mm FAST, lifters, timing chain, NW TB, 241 heads, etc.). There was nothing wrong with the engine, just wanted to do it. I put in a textralia clutch and tick slave also. I guess now I think that there isn't really much more for me to do with the car, so I am thinking crazy stuff!! My wife goes crazy when I bring up the idea, but I love the 93-97 style and espcially the 97 WS6's. I owned a 95 in the past. I guess I posted this to have someone tell me I'm crazy and stick me in my place...lol. The "change" bug has bit me I guess.

(If I posted this in the wrong spot, please let me know. Didn't want to stick it in the for sale or how much is it worth section b/c it's neither of these.)

I do have the pewter 2000... But I had the 95, and I sold it before I was "over it". It is just something about that style that I am obsessed with. I got the car from my uncle after my aunt passed. It was her car. I had a lot of memories in the car. It was the normal TA, but the WS6 on that body style just looks tough but simple. There isn't too much going on with the front end.

I know the LS1's get all the glory. But the LT1 birds are sweet(mabe its because I own a 95 T/A and 94 Formula.) If you can get a 95 plus cash. I would do it! Then take the money and put it towards the LT1. And show the LS1 guys what's up

You love the cars, what is the question? Most of us prefer the later years, but if the early 4th gens better suit you, jump on it. None of us are buying these cars for their investment value, so what makes sense is our passion, not anyone else's opinion...well, maybe the one you sleep with...

No problem at all- just don't expect to compete with the LS cars unless you are going to dump a lot of money in it.

I agree by the way- I Really like the clean lines of the LT cars- I have three- 94 25th anniv, 95 hawk and 97 formula WS6 vert..

swap the front end on your 2000 to the lt1 ws6 and have the best of both worlds...LT1 looks and ls1 performance.

Why not do the 93-97 front end conversion? Make it look just like the old LT1, but keep the LS1 inside.

I have to agree with you. I would have to swap out the entire front cap to do the swap. If I were to use the ram air hood, I would have to get the older style setup b/c the ram air's are different on the 96-97's to the 98-02's. I would much rather drop an LSx in the 96-97.

I have been trying to put an ad out there to find someone to trade, but it is just so hard to let go...lol! I am trying to talk the wife in to letting me just get the older TA, but one that needs some help or has a lot of miles and just build it up how I would want it. Thanks again everyone for the comments.

The earlier 4th gens are like 200 pounds lighter than the catfish, so if you did the LS1 swap, it'd probably be faster than regular LS1 F-bodies. I think the task of putting the LS1 and all the electronics into the LT1 body would be more work than it's worth. I really think there's a whole lot more you can do to your car, and there always will be. Go FI or start working on electronics/gadgets, that'll give you something to do.

putting an ls1 into an LT1 is a pain in the *** from what i hear. swapping the fenders, hood, front clip and headlights (you can make the ls1 lid work...there's write ups here) is WAY easier...

that's what i was thinking as well ironfist...i own both and one would think optioned alike, the ls1 would weigh less mainly because of the aluminum block...can't see any reason why my 2000 would weigh that much more then my '95...

LOL if you think it will be easier to do an engine swap, then just swap the fenders bumper and hood, you are high!
