Default Not your normal stall question...

Alright, ive searched and no beans. So i realize lots like the 9.5" converter for stalls.I am going with a 3200 converter and have a few questions/conserns.So the stock converter size is 12" and will multliply more tourque due to the greater size of it.My car is going to be a cam only 228r car with full exhaust, thats all its ever going to be.So should i go with a stock size converter stalled to 3200 or should i get a 9.5 inch one?I will be around the 400 hp mark and dont want to lose a bunch of power on that small 9.5" stall. Are my concerens viable? What would you choose for a mostly street car with 10 bolt 3;23 rear that wont ever see a true slick(maybe a dot drag radial once)Hate to build a rear

I assume your looking at the circle d stock 298mm unit stalled to 3200 compared to something like a billet unit at 32-3600? The stock sized 3200 will work fine with your cam and be a nice setup however you will be leaving performance on the table. By going to a 245mm converter like the the car will flash faster off a stop and probably be a bit more efficient up top and more in town friendly with the cams powerband. With the stock size your looking at .4-.5 off you et while .7 is not uncommon with a billet unit plus the clutch in the billet unit is much stronger. If your on a budget then theres nothing wrong with the 298 but if you have a little extra cash and want the most out of your setup go with the 245.

ok that did awnser some questions but would i lose any power over the stock size converter? Also i was looking at the revmax(300 bux) i know its not the best but the trany is used and i hate to buy a good converter for a questionable tranny. If circle d had a budjet converter i would buy from them,or yank,ect.$300 vs $700 is quite a junp,im broke, lol

circle d does have a budget converter they have one for 395 bucks on their website and it gets great reviews. a converter regardless will make you dyno lower. however even though the billet converter may show a a slightly larger hp drop it will still make your car faster than the 298 or 300mm converter so in the end the dyno numbers are just numbers that dont mean much because at the end of the day the car with the billet converter will be faster everytime

oh and fwiw I'm not sold on revmax yes they are a sponsor on here which is a big step in the right direction but i really havent seen any huge track gains and some people have posted a lost in trap speed which isnt common amongst other converters where trap stays the same or even gains a bit. if you really want another good budget option check into ptc.

A 12" 3200 stall is going to be inefficient and generate a lot of heat.

This. I can't figure out why in the world you think the 12 inch converter is so special. Whoever told you that slap them Plus its as heavy as a dumptruck. For performance you go smaller with converters....remember that and you'll be fine.

Go with the smaller size. And dont go cheap, get billet. Seen so many stories of cheap converters eating transmissions

A 12" unit will not perform as well as a 245mm 9.5" converter, regardless of who builds it. Not to mention you will not see much of an improvement on your 60's... If you are on a budget and are making less than 500hp, our stage 3 converter will suit you perfectly... As for 60' improvements, you should see about .3-.7 drop depending on stall you pick, tires, gears and driver skill. Hope this helps!! Get yourself a 245mm unit and you will be very happy!
