Default Emission Question

Hi Guys I plan on swapping an lt1 into my v6 camaro (I know all the crap) but in Maryland I still have to pass emissions which they plug into the ob2 and make sure you have cats. With the lt1 in my car would plugging into the ob2 send a code that says its a v8 which would probably fail me ? Any other comments would be appreciated Thanks.

If your emissions check is the same as NoVa (which I'm pretty sure it is) they also check your VIN when they plug in to your OBD2 port. If that is the case, I'm not sure if you could set it up with an LT1 computer, but I would think worst case, you get the setup that runs the engine with an LS1 computer. Then, the emissions check should be a breeze.

You might be able to run it on an OBD2 LT1 PCM, and just put your VIN in it.

So what would be the best thing to do ? find a used lt1 computer (96-97 used ob2) and have it tuned with my vin in it or use an ls1 computer ? No I cant register under hot rod. I wonder what would be done if it did not pass because of this ?

Best thing to do is sell the V6 car and buy a V8 one.

Make sure to Have it tuned with your VIN! a guy at work in another dept. I dont know him really well, but I Know the State police came into work one day and spoke with him. Hes kind of a Ricer guy. He did a Motor swap and picked up a Computer & Wiring harness off Ebay. When he went to smog it, the OBD2 test picked up the VIN from the computer as a Stolen car. His car was impounded for a bit, And he ended up taking some days off for court.

As far as local laws for you. I'd stop by a police station/testing station and ask for information. Another option would be contact a local car club.

Ok thanks guys I am thinking about different engines I have decided to go with a ls1,lq4, or a 5.3 whichever I can get a hold of for the cheapest. Could I use a truck computer and harness in my car would everything match up electrical wise ? I know its easier to buy a v8 but if everyone took the easy way out we would have stock cars
