I'm new to this site & the LS1 world, so go easy on me!! LOL . I'm in the process of starting a new project & insteed of going the "Typical for me" Big Block Chevy, I have deciced to lean towards the new gen small block. My original thoughts were a blown/intercooled LS1/6 speed. Now I have come across a 6.0 motor w/ aluminum heads. It has 22K miles & is all complete less intake & computer for $1,000. My question is - Is this is a fair price? I think it is. How are these motors different to a LS1?? I know it is a cast iron block, but what is Bore/Stroke difference? How are the heads? Somebody told me they are bigger. Is there any truth to this? I'm wanting to make atleast 500 HP.

I'm looking at the magna charger. I plan on building this motor from scratch & putting in good parts. Will the factory hard parts live..ie crank & rods?

I know I have asked alot of questions & any input is greatly appreciated. I just need an little education (or atleast enough to get me in trouble) on these motors. It is going in a 55 Chevy, so smog is not a problem.

Thanks for time :drive:

That sounds like a great project and you got a steal.. ;) '55 Chevys are awesome too..

There are two different 6.0s, the LQ4 and the LQ9.. from '01 and up they share the same D-port aluminum heads.. The ports on these highly sought after heads are similar to the LS6 vette heads. They are #317 or #035 casting on the front of the head near the valve cover..

Now with that being said, the LQ4 is a low compression truck engine, 9.4:1 and has the dished pistons and is better for FI.. The LQ9 is basically the bigger version of the LS1 and is 10.0:1.. It's out of the Escalade and Silverado SS and has flat top pistons.. That is the only difference between the LQ4/LQ9, the pistons. The LQ4/LQ9 heads are 71.06cc chambered.

Here is some more info I found on the net: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/bigeller/_images/LS1_bore_stroke.jpg
