Well, i remember making a thread on here that i was "planning" on joining USMC... After an arduous journey of changing my contract around and taking care of a few tickets, i finally ship out this coming tuesday.

Yes, not monday but tuesday due to halloween.

Ill be a reservist for now due to having a great job and needing to finish my education. Later on i will go active for sure.

So i tried to land Infantry Rifleman 0311 but all the spots were surprisingly taken, so i picked out 0621 Field Radio Operator and was told by my gunnery sergeant that i will be attached to an infantry squad... Which is def. cool by me.

As far as Initial Strengh Test (IST). I have a lot of room for improvement, Weighed in at 160lbs standing 5'7 at MEPS.
Pull ups: 18
Crunches: 89 in 2 mins
Running: 10:51 mile and half.

Yes i know, pretty measly :eyes: but surprisingly i was in the top 5 out of 35 other poolees getting tested.... I know, fucking slobs...

I go to "poolee functions" weekly and see so many pussies, it just makes me laugh... Fuck, some ppl there cant even run 3 miles.

Honestly looking forward to Bootcamp and absolutely cant wait for 3 most miserable Months in my life  Im expecting the worst always!!

So, MARINES, any advice for me while staying in bootcamp?

Oh and i already learned my basic "knowledge" booklet.

Thanx everyone :usa: Gonna miss ls1tech, booze, chewing tobacco, food, and most of all poontang :(

im going there with a positive attitude and leaving that way. I know that most of this is a mind game. Only weak ones wont make it and imo dont belong in the USMC. I know exactly what ive signed up for and expect to be treated like an absolute piece of shit. Of course imma hate it at first, but trust me, ill learn to love it.

Well, someone's in receiving now, blouse buttoned all the way up, trousers unbloused over go-fasters, lookin' like a retard attempting to march to chow...friday should be fun - "two sheets and a blanket online!", getting slayed on the quarterdeck, and nut to butt wagon wheel showers...

if you want to be a grunt, go active. by the time you read these, God willing, you'll be on your 10 day boot leave and you'll be running around trying to figure out what to get your girl for v-day. first thing i'd do is think long and hard (maybe 2-3 days) about this civvie job. if you dont plan on it being your career, go active. that long and hard thinking will be clear now as you read this. If you feel the corps is in your blood, you'll regret not going active, and this 10 day boot leave will be the BEST TIME EVER to do something about it. no surprise the marforres 0311 billets are full in cali. both 23rd and 24th marines are pretty bad-ass (with some exceptions i wont call out on here) and dont see many casualties in combat. as a reserve comm guy, you can expect to be placed in an H&S co for a division bn (according to your gunny telling you straight). point is, as said in post 8, the longer you wait, the more likely it is you wont go active. if you do, its a pain in the butt as its basically an entire new enlistment. its not just leaving a reserve unit sunday and falling in monday morning for PT in an active unit. so now that you got your info, enjoy your boot leave and dont spend all your money on car stuff.

yup, its not hard but you will have to put up with a bunch of stupid games. You just have to go with the flow for 3 months and its done with. after boot camp nobody will really care about what you did or didnt do in boot camp, if you were a squad leader or not etc.

Meh...i got 11 months left before my usmc EAS. Having previous college/normal independent life before the corps it was a joke for me, exactly like the OP said its all a mind game...11 months cant come fast enough, can't wait to wipe my own ass for once! Semper Pie!

Thanx!

I figured i would post a little update to my own thread since i see so many people consider the military, make threads about joining and in the end dont do shit...

BTW, i saw quite a few good looking tastefully modded fbodies at Camp Pendleton during 2nd phase while on the way to the rifle range or going off to hikes, passing by parking lots... That stuff kept me sane LOL and i was actually wondering if those people were here on the tech. Saw Quite a bunch of them in Area 52 as well....

you are not going to the fleet, you are a Pleather Neck now. If you are smart, you will put in an AA form and go active duty ASAP so you can actually be a Marine.

damn, no love for reservists?

Last time i checked, all the training for reservists and active duty is identical... so how am i not a Marine? I still have a high chance of going to country, just like any active duty...

I grant you, im not an experienced Marine, but i pretty damn sure earned what i got...

no one is saying you are not a Marine, just that you dont get to BE one. i have been both, and there are parts of being a Marine you miss in the reserves. you'll never get to conduct a wall locker inspection, stand duty, sneak away from the duty or PMO, know what life and comraderie is from living in barracks, perform colors, really get to know your Marines and be an effective influence on them and their career, go to the field days on end, get fap'd out to another unit, go tad to any cool schools, have devil dogging contests, field day, conduct your own field day inspections, and so much more. You dont get to be who you really are cause you have to shut it off sunday night, just when you've finally started to get back in to your groove over the weekend. consider yourself active with 28 days of libo every month. how effective can you be? no one is saying you're any less, but you just miss out.

its like two z28s, equal in every way, except one is owned by a grandma who never goes over 70, and the other runs in standing mile events. both cars are equally capable, both cars CAN beast out if need be, but only one gets to realize the full experience of being a hot shot z28 just because.

slowpoke96z28

and the training is not identical when it comes to resident courses, pme schools, etc. you can only cram so much into a 2 week A/T

I've talked to prev. active duty guys that went weekend warriors... some little reserv. corporal made a comment about a active duty cpl letting a jew ahead of him in the chow hall and this pertictular sgt i was talking to told the weekend warrior cpl that's how the real corps is... but you'll never know cause you pussied out and only play pretend... I don't know what unit, but I don't agree on that fully. Cause our sister reserve unit tagged on our last oef trip.

I'm with ANGLICO... our sister reserve unit is 3rd ANGLICO (based out of O.C.) . Same with 2nd ANGLICO in NC, their sister reserve unit is 4th ANGLICO based out of West Palm Beach area (I do believe)

ANGLICO is not a worthless MOS, it's not an MOS like recon. It's mainly made up of 0861s and 0621s with FAOs (field arty officer). We have our own supply, S-shops, etc like any other company. We are a battalion size company of 250 total including HQ and the brigades(BDE). Within the BDE each has a HQ the size of a SALT or which can be broken down into 2 FIC teams, and with each BDE HQ there are 2 SALT teams and within a SALT team there are 2 FIC teams. Anyone in a BDE which or 0861s and 0621s have the capability to call in CAS missions, arty, naval guns, comm experts, CLS qual'ed, etc... some have refered us as super grunts b/c we can do it all on the ground.
