Default Do I really need to relocate the torque off the tail shaft??

I don't drag my SS, but I'm more into handling and cornering or corner carving. So I was wandering if I really need to move the torque off the tail shaft or not. Thanks.

Since you don't drag race I would say you are fine to leave as it is. The most issues we seem to see are on M6 cars with high HP levels. We have heard of a few that broke the tail shafts on the dyno as well. Last week we had to overnight a relocation kit to a shop where the tail shaft busted on the dyno... pretty crazy!

If you do move it, I suggest getting one designed for factory length torque arms. This is a transmission cross member and torque arm mount in one and takes the transmission mount out of the equation on handling. I moved mine and I like the way the car drives without the extra flex in the drive line.

For a visual I'm talking about this part from UMI but other sponsors make them as well.

BTW, I keep my cars as streetable as possible and don't drag race.

Anyone know how that relocation affects noise or anything? If it transfers alot more harshness?

You will have no clearance issues with the TSP catted y-pipe and the UMI relocation kit.

It does not transfer a lot more noise or harshness. It may make you feel bumps a little more but usually goes unnoticed. If you are worried about added noise and harshness run this item with a rubber transmission bushing.

I hope this helps!

Hey 241. We've actually installed that exact TSP system here at the factory and it fit nicely with clearance to spare. Jerry mentioned "if a stock unit fits, so does ours" which if you have the TSP already with a stock unit you can order ours with confidence.

And relapse, I checked with the customer and he mentioned no particular difference in noise. It does use a poly mount instead of factory rubber but for how we use our cars it seems un-noticable.

Happy Monday!

Just keep an eye on your factory mount. The bushing has a tendency to distort, the bracket will spread apart/come open, and the factory torque arm can bend. While higher horsepower levels will obviosly egagerate these shortcomings, the bushing and bracket can fail with minimal effort or by exposure to weather.

Wait, so Part #: 2207 isn't a tunnel mount? ****... shows what I know. I'm guessing this is the way to go then if you want it OFF the tail shaft, but running TSP duals?

I like the relocated TA mounts that replace the tranny cross-member. You will feel some extra noise, especially coupled with other poly bushing rear suspension items. And you will feel/hear noise from the rear gears themselves if you have any noise present that the stock mount masks. I would think this would be more noticeable with rears that have been altered and are no longer stock.

Hey guys. There are some good install pics on our site.

http://www.umiperformance.com/catalo...roducts_id=201

And dr_whigham, sometimes it's confused with a tunnel mount because the tunnel is associated with the transmission but in this case simply replaces the stock transmission crossmember and allows the TA to be disassociated with the trans.

Jerry is back from the SEMA show on Monday. He would know exactly if it worked with TSP true duals. I think it does but am only 93.4% sure.

have a good day

There is always a benefit to taking it of the tailshaft because it's one of the worst ideas a factory car has ever come with. haha Should you keep the factory TA and don't plan to add power or seriously race the car, the tailshaft mount should work. But it's ideal to take it off the tailshaft.

Sounds great and we are glad to help. Also just to confirm, it clears great with the TSP duals. See picture below
