Default G5X-2 cam with stock LS1 heads...dyno results within!!!

404 RWHP with 384 ft.-lbs. RWTQ

Please tune in to this thread tomorrow for the scanned dyno sheet.

To say that this cam ROCKS, would be a crude understatement!

Myself and a few of my Waco buddies drove from Waco to Wylie Friday morning. At this time, the car had the following modifications/specifications:

 • Fast Toys Ram Air system, modified and sealed lower airbox, Direct-Flo airbox lid, ported and descreened stock LS1 mass airflow sensor, "Redhawk" bellows, RAGEman "R2" ported throttle body ( ), stock, original, unmodified intake manifold, throttle body heated coolant flow bypass, 160° thermostat, MSD 8.5-mm. spark plug wires, NGK TR55 spark plugs (.040"-gap), MTI underdrive crank pulley, power steering pulley bypass via short accessory belt, stock, original, untouched longblock, stock steel driveshaft, Moser 9" rear-end with billet aluminum pinion support, 4.56 gears, spool, 31-spline axles, stock 16" x 8" wheels, Pep Boys Futura 245/50/16 tires w/32 psi, SLP 1.75" longtube headers with custom 3" true dual exhaust with X-pipe, dual Dynomax bullet mufflers, and dual turndowns

After about 20 minutes of cooldown from the 2-hr. trip, we pulled the thing onto the dyno. Results: 336 RWHP w/ 350 ft.-lbs. RWTQ. Those numbers were signifcantly lower than what I had expected, even taking into account the fact that since my last dyno of 360 RWHP w/ 376 ft.-lbs. RWTQ, I had swapped from the 3.42-geared 10-bolt to the 4.56-geared 9". A speculation that Lou and I had that could have affected the numbers was that the SLP longtubes I now have were not performing as well as the Grotyohanns I had before. We also found out later that the car was running dangerously lean (~15:1 A/F ). Keep in mind that these dyno numbers have produced very consistent 116-117 MPH traps with a 3425-lb. raceweight, and even one pass @ 118.04. I think this pretty much negates the idea that LG's dyno reads higher than other local-area dynos.

Anyway, needless to say, I was floored when after ONLY the cam swap and tuning (along with a clutch upgrade from the stocker to the RAM 900-series), I gained 68 RWHP! 404 RWHP is absolutely awesome through a steel driveshaft, 4.56-geared 9", and full exhaust.

Everyone please understand: supporting track times WILL come as soon as the Spring Break Shootout happens (which looks like at least a couple of weeks now, since it got postponed ). I have full intention of running 10's at the shootout with my new (still N/A) cam-only setup.

To sum it all up, this cam is awesome. Many thanks go out to Lou, Louis, and the guys at LG Motorsports for making this happen!

Take care, feel free to ask any questions you'd like, and stay posted for the graph!!!

Alan

Awesome! Question, did you have the cam installed that same day? If so, I would say the significant cool down (much more than 20 minutes) may have helped the numbers just a little. LG Motorsports sells that cam? How much for it and what valvesprings do you run?

Isn't the G5X2 a split pattern cam but not a reverse split?

Hey Alan,

You wanna let us know how you were able to just get the cam installed without shelling out the mucho dinero required for the matching heads as well? I didn't think LG was selling the cam seperately.

I was really interested in this cam until I was unpleasantly informed I would be unable to buy it unless I bought heads + installation also.

hey congrats on the new power #s

is this the cam that made 440rwhp?
if so what was the header set up on that car?(brand) and did it have merge collectors?

we are doing testing with different header set ups and also feel that the SLP headers although a good quality and appearence seem to not make the power that they should and hold some cars back

and ya got to figure that you will lose some hp on the dyno with the 4.56 and 9"

very interesting. i do find it weird you lost that much power with the 9" and headers. i would also like to know why you went with worse headers.

good to know someone like you rage has proven this cam out. looks ot be interesting.

Lou,

I have to commend you atleast for selling the G5X-2 cam by itself even if it needs to be installed in house at your facility. What would the pricing be for the cam only install?

I can answer a couple questions for Alan...

RAGEman demodded his car and sold a lot of his parts off last year. Including the Grots.

Then he got the bug and has begun remodding his car. He bought the SLP's used (saving $$) and, well, you know the rest.

Once a racer, always a racer, I guess.

The numbers look great, Alan! Glad you got everything working OK.

-Andrew

Yeah no kidding..i'm in central florida, I don't even want to know how much the install and shipping the car would cost just sell it a little overpriced and include a flycuting tool..that's all there is to it!

Hi Guys

Alan's heads were never even off. How do you fly cut pistons with the heads on?

You can buy our G5X-1 cam through the mail.
We are ready to take your order now.

Thanks,

Lou Gigliotti

Maybe just maybe I can take a week off from work and drive down to houston. Yea thats dandy. This should have been posted in the Texas forum as it does no good for the rest of the country.

Hope everyone loves the G5x-TexasOnly-Cam.

Will you release specs on the G5X-1 if not the G5X-2? Or atleast tell me if it's N20 friendly I have a custom comp cams 224/230 .568"/.573" on a 114 and the power is deffinatly NOT there.I am deciding between F1,X1 or G5X-1 and small shot of N20 like 125 or so..how well would the G5X-1 perform against the x1 and f1? T6hank's...and AWESOME NUMBER'S!!!

The TR230 makes similar gains it seems:
Jason's TR230 comparison

Its amazing how much a cam can wake these cars up!
