Default Can LQ4 & LQ9 Bored to 4.125"!!!

Greeting

Have someone bored the LQ4 or LQ9 to 4.125"?

I know for sure the water jackets will start to be exposed when reaching 4.270"...

With the iron block to bore to 4.125" seems dowable if the application is only natural aspirated...

See the below links

I think MTI done before the boring of the LS1/LS6 block and they noticed that the water jacket start to expose at 4.275". The LQ4/LQ9 Block do have thicker wall thickness than the LS1/LS6 Block.

Thanks

With the exception of a couple people that claim they have done 4.125", the rest of the whole world seems to agree the most you can safely go is 4.065".

Why would you sleeve an iron block?

The best thing you can do is take your block to have it sonic checked. From what I understand most all of them can go to 4.080" safely. I have also heard about 1 in 5 can go to 4.100" safely. But they absolutely need to be checked. It depends on the shop you talk to but you don't want to run less than .100" cylinder wall thickness in an N/A application- horsepower dependent of course.
