Saw it on my FB page. Looks good, can't find any specs myself.

"The COPO Camaro is back at Chevrolet, as a concept designed to the specifications for NHRA Stock Eliminator drag racing competition. The COPO concept vehicle is designed to accommodate more than one engine option, including a naturally aspirated 427 engine (7.0L) – the same displacement as the original COPO Camaros from 1969 – and a supercharged 327 (5.3L) engine. Among the many racing-specific features and equipment is a conversion from the Camaro’s standard independent rear axle to a solid axle, as well as a full chrome moly roll cage."

Only issue with these SEMA cars is that they are "concepts" I want to know if any will be built as production models. This car and the 1LE IMO are 2 that should be put into production or make a Z28 at least.

I dunno, I remember seeing the GT500's at my local dealer with a "Not legal for street use" on the window sticker.

GM is really trying to revive the 1st gen spirit with this one huh?

Glad to see shoe-horned huge power motors into otherwise base chassis is back.

S'not gonna fool anyone with tires like that though... or the flashy COPO on the side... weren't the originals low key?

I doubt they even get VIN numbers. Probably numbered sequentially for NHRA requirements.

Proposed COPO Camaro Engine Configurations

427 Naturally Aspirated:

Suggested class: A Stock
Cubic inches: 427(7.0L)
Block: LS7
Block material: aluminum
Crank: forged steel
Rods: H-beam
Pistons: forged dome
Compression ratio: TBD
Heads: LS7
Rocker arms: LS7 1.8-ratio
Induction: natural aspiration
Intake: Holley
Camshaft type: hydraulic roller
Cam duration (deg.): 233/276 @ . 050-in.
Cam lift (inch): .595
327 Supercharged:

Suggested class: AA Stock
Cubic inches: 327 (5.3L)
Block: LS9
Block material: aluminum
Crank: forged steel
Rods: H-beam
Pistons: forged dome
Compression ratio: 10.2:1
Heads: LS7
Rocker arms: LS7 1.8-ratio
Induction: boosted
Intake: Whipple 2.9l supercharger
Camshaft type: hydraulic roller
Cam duration (deg.): 244/255 @ .050-in.
Cam lift (inch): .650
And then, there was the main event… In a theatrical flourish, the crate containing GM’s answer to the Cobra Jet swung open and the COPO rolled out, every bit the turn-key drag car we had hoped for, but with some details we never would have guessed. Under the hood sits a 327 CI engine based on the LSX block topped by a 2.9L Whipple supercharger, with the provision for a LS7-based 427 naturally aspirated powerplant as well. The concept channels power through a Powerglide racing automatic, but Chevy envisions three-speed autos and a five-speed stick configuration for those looking for other transmission options. Out back, a solid 9-inch Ford-type axle replaces the production Camaro’s IRS, turning 9×30 Hoosier radial drag tires.

Per Jim Campbell, GM US vice president of Performance Vehicles and motorsports, “The COPO Camaro is a proof of concept for what a Chevrolet Stock Eliminator entry could look like.” While it’s currently just a concept, Campbell adds, “It is a clear indication that Chevrolet intends to homologate the Camaro for sportsman drag racing.”

Vehicle Highlights:

Provisions for two engine configurations
Provisions for a Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission, a three-speed automatic or a five-speed manual
High-rise cowl-induction hood
Custom Aeromotive fuel system, with a fuel cell and integral high-pressure fuel pump
Full, chrome moly roll cage
Coil-over front suspension with Strange Engineering adjustable struts
Custom rear suspension, based on NHRA requirements, with Strange Engineering shocks, Panhard bar and stabilizer bar
Strange Engineering S-9 solid rear axle with aluminum third member, 35-spline spool, 35-spline axles and 4.10 gear set
Lightweight, COPO-specific racing wheels
29×9-inch rear radial racing slicks and 4.5x28x15-inch front tires
Manual steering system
Strange Engineering lightweight racing brakes system with standard line lock.
While it’s clear that Chevy is serious about adding the COPO part number to the GMPP catalog, it’s not a sure thing. Per GMPP’s Dr. Jamie Meyer, it’s up to us to convince the corporate powers-that-be to produce this car, so head on over to the GM Performance Parts website to sign up for the newsletter, and start blowing up their Facebook page to let them know that the COPO Camaro needs to go from concept to reality!

COPO with the LS7 is pretty much what I had hoped for a Z28 model. Either way, I like this setup. A lot.

So the 327 has the LS9 block. That means 4.065" bore. That equals out to a tiny 3.15" crank. Wonder how much boost that blower is spitting out to take advantage of the LS7 heads on such a small motor?

Just realized something........the blower is over half the size of the engine   .

COPO does not mean performance.True, good points. But then again I believe that most of the original COPO Camaros were still somewhat custom, performance oriented combinations.

Let the name die already.I don't know if they really need to let it die, but perhaps they should at least clarify exactly what it meant/means and not 'label it' much like nomenclature such as 'SS', 'ZL1' or 'Z28' are used. :)

The Cobra Jets are available with the 4.0l whipple ;)

^^^ For an extra $10k
"4.0L Supercharger Option: ($9,995) Ford Racing offers their exclusive upgrade kit to the base 2012 Cobra Jet for the racer looking to perform at the highest levels of NHRA Super Stock Competition. Kit includes supercharger, billet throttle-body, complete inlet system with 140mm billet mass-air housing, installation instructions, and exclusive Ford Racing race-ready calibration. Final horsepower rating TBD, rating will differ from 500hp 2010 model."

The blower on the 5.3L iron block (which is LSX based not LS9) comes with a 3.2L whipple.
The cage is rated for 8.50, so I would assume the FI 5.3 will go deep 9's-high 8's and the N/A 427 will go high-mid 9's.

ugh. COPO meant that you could buy a car with just about any engine you wanted..on the d/l. not this crap. neat set up/offering but yea, not a COPO.

true COPO: man goes in to buy a Colorado, Corvette GS, or even a Cruze and can get whichever V8 he wants in the Colorado and Corvette with whichever transmission.

and for the Cruze, it means i could get it with the 260hp SS/TC engine and 5 speed

Keep in mind these are also $80k+ cars, that are not street legal.
GM is last to the party on offering such a car, but ti is good to see them do it.

For 2013, the Cobra Jets will also have a 5.0L option, both n/a and blown.

All they stated was that they came with a 427 c.i. Like the 69 copo's came with likely referring to the 69 zl1's which indeed did come with a 427 c.i.

Don't know if you actually wanted to know what it "means" or if that was something else. Central office production order.

But I can see where the possible confusion could come from by how I'd worded that above. I was merely responding to those that felt using the historical/legendary term 'COPO' was entirely inappropriate in this particular instance. Maybe it is, I don't know.
