Sounds like one hell of a power plant. I wonder if I can get one for my WS6?

From link:
"Our sources claim that the 400-horse rating is due to a slightly more restrictive exhaust manifold design to fit the Holden/GTO platform. The big news is that the LS2 features the same cylinder heads as the LS6, which will make for a substantial improvement in power over the standard LS1"

I was under the impression that the ls2 heads were not the same as the ls6 heads. Well atleast not the valves any way. But I could be wrong.

Holden is gradually phasing out the LS1 for the LS2 in their cars.

First the magazine rumor of a 375HP LS1 standard for next year, now a 400HP LS2 may be optional?

The 2004 GTO is just the beginning. :)

I doubt the GTO will get a 400hp rating in the states until GM moves the new C6 Vette above that target. I would guess that GM will phase out all LS1/LS6 block and head casting(except replacement requirements) in favor of a more convient single LS2 block production.

No doubt! No gm car made will ever have the same ponies as the vette! Vettes rule #1 from the general!! :usa:

Vettes rule huh,I think u better look at a 1970 LS6 Chevelle..
450HP,dont remember any 70 Vette getting that motor ;)

Or perhaps the CTS-V
405 HP just like the Z06

Again your wrong...
GM will put a 400HP motor designation on the Judge....
Just wait and see...

The rule is no other GM product can be faster than the Corvette.

Cadillac has already matched the C6's power with the CTS-V, there's nothing to prevent Pontiac from doing the same. Both of those cars will not be faster than a Corvette stock.

Not real sure where you get this info, but the CTS-V is rated at 400hp. Also, it wasn't allowed until the last year of the C5 Vette, as the C6 lines will be upping the power shortly.

No GM vehicle has beaten the power output of the Vette in recent years. The Judge could get 400hp, but I doubt it. GM has huge incentive to do this in the CTS-V. It gives them something to put against the BMW M5.

Actually in the mid eightees the Buick Turbo and Pontiac 20th Anniversary Trans Am were rated the same horsepower as the Vette and were actually quite a bit faster, (this is just a couple years before the ZR1 debuted).

Okay u got me on the CTS-V but what about the LS6 Chevelles,or the TTA Trans ams of the 80's,GN's etc....

It will happen (GTO 400HP) since the Z06 will then get more HP and be the king of the hill.

The C6 is supposed to have 400+ from the factory anyway!

dont get ur hopes up too much about the power. 400hp for the base will be sweet, but we dunno how much more the Z07 (or whatever) will have. i was kinda let down by the amount of weight reduced, i thought it would be under 3000lbs

GTA91
04-13-2004, 10:10 PM
I thought the C6 was right at or right under 3k lbs?? The z06 is rumored to have about 500hp and weight about 2800 lbs... that is gonna get real interesting spanking a $70k v10 viper with a little old 6.0L pushrod motor. haha <evil laugh>

89 TTA was "rated" at 255hp. I think the 'Vette was 250hp that year. Either way, it was still a second faster for that 5hp :D

Hmmmmm well there has been talk down under of the commadore getting a 6.0l engine a few years down the traps say 2006 . with the GTS currently having 300KW and with the way ford australia is going with 10 less kw for about $40k less i would expect the 6.0l to come out with about 350kw (whatever bhp that is) ... ford is also rummord to have a 427 aloy V10 in the works which makes the chances of this stronger. Without fail if one of the manufacturers ups the anti the other will follow. I beleave you could really expect a 350kw 6.0ltr engine around the 2006 mark with the release of the new commadore. Ford-australia would soon follow suit as always. You never know if the correct surcumstances prevale you might get 6ltr GTO's and V10 falcons.
