PLug stuck in head
WELL! we now have a turn of events! While trying to pull the #8 spark plug we found that the previous owner cross threaded the plug and we cant get it out. So now it looks like we are pulling the head and off the the machine shop for some head work.
Instead of buying the exhaust I am now in the market for some head upgrades and maybe a cam.
I dont think i want to replace the stock heads, just maybe put some new springs rockers and a somewhat mild cam. Coming from the import world, this doesn't sound so hard.
If now please enlighten me with what you would do with 1700, and this situation.
THANKS!
If i keep the stock valve springs and valve train, what kind of cam can i get away with?

I went with a LSA Comp cam 223/231 610 617 new valve springs and lifters for 1300bucks. Fairly aggressive cam but street friendly. Since your pulling the heads make sure you change your lifters.

Agreed, and even then they should still be swapped.
Anyways, yea, once the head gets fugged up, its time for a machine shop run but if your smart, look for some LS6 castings as even if they remain un touched, you get some better flow and a C/R bump.
Add your spring kit to match the cam and if your lucky and get heads that were actually off a z06 that had sodium filled exhaust vavles, thats a plus. OR what some people are doing is taking LS3 valves and getting them cut down to fit as they are lighter.
As for a parts list....
Heads: Look for LS6 pull of sets from CTSv's Z06's GTO's
Cam: check the dyno section
Timing Chain: LS2 or C5r
Spring Kit: Matched to cam
Pushrods: Hardened and measured to the cam
Oil Pump: Ported LS6
Gaksets (if they fail, o-ring for the pump)
Fluids: Coolant, Oil, possibly A/C if you disconnected it
Tune (dyno preferable)
Misc: Spark Plugs / Wires / O2's / Filters
Tools: Aluminum Dowel for lifters, crank puller / installer / Hand tools
Optional: Under Driver crank pulley, its free labor so might as well do it.
You will probably spend at least 1700, depending on what deals you can swing.

Those heads will work with your car, Just make sure you call Texas-Speed before you order anything and they can direct you to a proper setup that you're looking for. The 5.3 heads from PRC are by far the best bang for your buck though.

As far as PUMP and CHAIN, it is considered good form to replace. Chains have been known to snap and I have a car sitting at my house (long story) of another member who decided it was ok to have a H/C set up + 150 Nitrous shot and wondered why the snapped the chain and basically fragged the bottom end and fugged up brand new TFS cyl head setup. He obviously was never smart about that and never listened to me when it came to this stuff. Also fragged a few transmission in his time again, for not listening or learning.
Sometimes you can't save them all.

Timing chain, yes you will want to replace that. The best one for your money is going to be the LS2 timing chain which will easily handle the power you are planning to make. Note* If you do plan to do this head/cam setup I would HIGHLY reccomend you upgrade some of your bolt ons via Lid, MAF, Longtubes, Y pipe, catback and be prepared to spend money on a tune. Your fuel system SHOULD be okay but it was also be reccomended that you look into replacing your stock injectors and fuel pump. The cheapest route with that would be Ford 39ln injectors (yes they will work), and a TRE or Walbro fuel pump (TRE being the cheaper of the two). Not sure about your real goals for the car if you have any but feel free to PM me if you have any further questions.
