Default Re: Polishing Tips

ok, basics of polishing metal:
the gist of doing this is you want to make the metal as smooth as possible. this reflects the light better and, hence, gives it it's appearance. this is a basic guide for any metal you will find on your car. first, u need to take off any 'rough areas' (chunks of metal left over from the casting process from the factory. this is most obvious on calipers) with your dremmel.
second, start the sanding process. the rules here are simple: the more time you spend on it and the finer grit you use, the better your end product will look. you can go to any automotive or crafts store to get what you need. start with a low number (150-200) and work your way up (1000+). once you have that thing SMOOTH, you can use a compound of some sort. many people use tripoli, i use brasso. whatever. you are now done polishing.
on a side note, reference your calipers, let me make a humble suggestion. once you're done with the caliper, spray with some hi-temp (500+) clear coat paint once. place any caliper decals (these things are very sharp, you'll be happy you did it. do a search on ls1.com to find.) on now, then spray 2-3 more coats on. this will prevent you from having to re-shine them in the future.-good luck <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
