I just recently purchased a 1998 Firebird 3.8L V6 and the exhaust on it needs to be replaced from the cat-back. I was wondering what kind of exhaust i should get. I would like to get the deepest tone and rumble out of it that i can, even though it is only a V6. Any suggestions??? I was looking into the Flowmaster American Thunder Kit or the Magnaflow Kit with dual rear exits? Let me know what you think....Thanks

NO , if you want a good sounding V6 , go for true duals ..
get a set of pacesetter headers , 2.5 universal H-pipe from summit , and 2 borla XR1 bullet mufflers .. maybe magnaflow mufflers if you want to keep the cost down ..

This is the best sounding setup on a V6 , and will be loud.
if you dont mind a loud exhaust , dump it by the axle , or run it through tail pipes if you want someting a bit more quiet ..

look on youtube and see for yourself , you wont regret it ..

Really don't want to put that much money in te car since it is only a v6

ouch , in that case go for a TSP rumbler , It will have a nice rumble on idle , and it will be loud at WOT .. the catback systems designed for the V8 sound like shit and rasp too much ..

and if you have time , look fur used parts .. I`ve seen a set of true duals go for 400 with cats and everything ..

Where can I get a tsp rumbler and are they made for the v6 or the v8?

look on texas speed , they make the rumbler ..
It fits both V6 and V8 cars , all you need is a 3` S-pipe with it , which can be found anywhere for cheap .. or just grab a 90 degree bend and cut it in half and weld it the other way around ..

Are you talking about the s-bend that comes off the cat?

yes , stock one is 2.25" , but the rumbler is a 3" cat-back , so you`ll need to swap out the S-bend with a 3" one ..

So even if I leave everything else stock...the rumbler kit should give it a nice rumble?

well its never going to rumble like a V8 , but the rumbler system is loud , and does ahve a nice rumble to it on idle .. it does rasp much less then magnaflow or flowmaster too ..

this is the only vid I can remember of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_PnTa6Dnnk

notice that he has Longtube headers so it will sound a bit better , but a rumbler on its own will make a huge difference compared to stock ..

I see on Texas speed's website they have the speed rumbler kits for the v6's and v8's.. I was wondering if they are the same thing. I see the on for the v6 says dynomax bullet mufflers and the v8 one says bullet style muffler...is there a difference?

Last time I checked there was no difference , and I believe you had a choice of mufflers , but dynomax is the cheapest one and most commonly used one ..

Id say just grab a V6 one (even though they should all be the same) lol
and get a 3" s bend from summit or somewhere .. you should be all set :D

I'm wondering if the difference between the two is the location of the hangers... Do you think I could reduce the muffler down
to a 2.5" or 2.25", whichever
is stock, so it fits on the stock
s-pipe? When I look at it, i don't know how I could replace the s-pipe because I wouldn't know how to connect it to the cat

just leave it as 3` for better sound and performance .. I have no idea about hangers but everyone has used the same system without any fitment problems , or modifications so I do believe they`re the same..
you could get a adapter to connect the S-pipe to the cat , or remove the cat , I believe the cat inlet is 3" but outlet is reduced to 2.25" ..

x2 I had that on my old v6 (just the muffler actually) and I think it sounded pretty good.

My current setup is a V8 cat back too , It does have a nice Idle , sounds nice cruising around and stuff , but its not really `loud` or anything ..
The best thing is that it doesnt rasp at all unlike most performance exhaust systems ..

Im still getting true duals before christmas though ..
