Maybe a small journal 62 to 67 327 block decked with 327 pistons and a 283 steel crank, 30-30 cam and 2.02 fuelie heads for a low compression 302 with huge RPM fun. But your talking a stroked 305 since the 283 has the same bore why not a 383.

well no matter what im using the 283. im not going for max power or speed im going for unique cause its going in a 1954 chevy truck. i have 3 350s a 305 and a 283...which 1 is unique? lol.

are you suggesting other things cause you know that wont work or what? i mean as long as it all fits it would be a stroked 283 which should be pretty nice

You would have to get the mains turned down on the 400 crank to fit the 283 block, then who knows if you wouldn't have clearance problems.

This is a parts combination for someone who is looking for problems and/or extra work.

by the time you would turn them down they would be about the same size as the 283 crank so doing this would just be dumb. Thanks for the help guys. Im just ganna have to do some more studying on 283s

Ok the 283 has the same bore as a 307 not a 305. a 307 is a 283 with a 3.25 inch stroke. I forget the boar but its close to 3.8 sumthing inches not 3.759 like a 305

What i would if i were you is knock it out 60 over keep that great small journal crank and put a set of good heads on it. You'll be able to rev the piss out of it.

But in all reality you should just do a 355 way eaiser to find parts.... heck someone looking for a numbers correct block and crank will give their left nutt for it.

I want to use my 283 block and its going into a 54 chevy pickup show truck, not race truck just want some muscle and chrome under the hood...and to be able to say i build the engine.

what if i did 283 with 307 crank?

It'd be a 307. Any small journal 307-327 crank will work.

Id just buy a cheap gm crate motor and chrome it out. way cheaper in the short run lol.

And it will have a warrenty!!!!!!

im using the 283 block. Im not buying a new engine or block cause i have 5 or 6 sbc and the 283 is the only 1 thats not a 350. I plan on making the 350s into muscle engines but i want the 283 to be a show engine in a show truck

The only thing good about the 283 is the fact that it might be worth a decent amount to somebody - too small for performance use and stock parts are extremely limiting. But it can be pumped up quite a bit with the right combo of parts.

and you basicly restate why i want to use it. i want it in a show truck with a somewhat rare engine. everyone has 305s 383s ex but i want something rare in it. If i had a 327 id take that cause it is also somewhat hard to come by but then i would want it in a camaro or something faster and not a 54 flat-bed lol.
