Default 5.3 Genral Info and advice please...

I had planned on an alum engine but the 5.3 engines seem like such a bargain that I could save a bunch of money and put the savings into a killer set of brakes. What do you guys think about the 5.3? I'm looking for a mild
450hp for a reliable daily driver, with a lumpy sounding cam and the best milage I can squeeze out of it. I realize this is a contradiction, but what are the 5.3 guys seeing out there on performance, reliability and mileage? Thanks for any help or advice...

I don't have the link readily available but CarCraft took a 5.3, carbed it and just swapped cams and dynoed almost 440 hp. Cheapest and easiest horsepower you'll find.

Look for an aluminum blocked 5.3, RPO L33 came in 05-07 classic ECSB 4x4 trucks, RPO LH6 out of a Trailblazer or Saab 97x, or newest one an LC9 out of a new body style 1/2 ton. They all are 9.9:1 compression have 243/799 heads on them and such. Depends what your looking for compatibility if swapping into something. L33 is a gen3 24x, the LH6 and LC9 are gen4 and have Displacement on demand and are 58x, some early LH6's are 24x tho..you should be able to find one for under a 1000. Any questions LMK.

Thanks for your help. Questions??.. A ton! I'm just learning about the new stuff and I am way, way behind the curve. I have seen NIB steel 5.3's from the silverado for 2500 bucks. I am considering buying one and just warming it over w/a cam and intake mods. I am limited on HP as my gearbox starts getting soft around 500HP. The new power plant will solve many issues for me if I can make the transition smooth. I am looking for a blown engine locally for mock up. I have checked out the supporting stand alone harness and I have also checked the clutch and bell housings. I really just need a blown motor so I can get into it and check it out. I would love an aluminum engine but they are about twice as much $... Do you guys see a down side to the steel 5.3 when under 500 HP??... Thanks for your help/advice!

The iron 5.3 will weigh more than the aluminum but they should make the same power with the same mods.
