Regret convertor?

Regret convertor? Anybody install a convertor in there car and regret it? Loose alot of mpg ect. I like driving my truck and want to be careful to keep it pleasant to drive on the street. I do like to go to the track and could use a little better 60ft, but never driven a car with a loose convertor and not sure if I would like it.

I think you will probably get a very very high percentage of very happy performance converter owners. It understand is a scary upgrade because you have never driven a high stall vehicle before, you are not sure what to expect. We do have a 278mm option that is great for a DD, it will drive very close to stock at light throttle but show you what it can do when you get on it. Be glad to help you go over the options....It you need anything let me know.

My trans went (not sure if it was cause of the converter or not) shortly after installing the converter. Big performance difference, 3 mpg difference. I still think the pick up was insane compared to other mods.

I don't have a "typical" set up. It's an Apple to Pumpkin comparison, but... my stock LS1 got 19 mpg, with a Circle-D 2C 3400 converter, it only lost about 1 mpg, highway mileage was unchanged at 21'ish. Comparing my current set up is allot different any were from 9 to 16 mph city, 20mpg highway.
When I was researching converters, go with the lowest stall for your cam, but the smallest size you can get... so if you have a stock cam a 3200 converter in a small size like a 245mm.
Allot of it is also in the tune, My stock tune locked around 45mph (I think), re tune on the build motor locked 4th in at 53mph and this last time I had the tuner bring it down to 49mph to lock the converter.

i dont regret getting a converter, but i do regret the size i went with..4400 vig. on a street car....
on the street, you cant feel the 1-2,2-3 shift, then it will snap your neck going into 4th, driving normal...there might be some underlaying issues with the trans..
at the track, it is badass

I have a 4k and want a 4400 so bad I can taste it

Some people with cheap converters regret the choice, but
a good converter is a good idea.
However, I doubt your 60' problem is with the converter.
More like that sweet 75/25% unladen weight distribution.

Only thing I regret is driving a cammed car on the stock converter for so long before getting a converter.
Yank SS3600 and love it. It's tight enough I definitely can't do what 01ssreda4 mentioned above, it moves the car very low in the power band but once 30-40% or more throttle is tipped in quickly it starts climbing in a hurry. A blip of less than half throttle like mentioned would roll the tires over several times.
Stock converter the car would barely spin even going WOT from a dead stop.

I won't own an a4 without a converter, even if it is otherwise stock to the paper air filter.
I love the way a lose converter feels. Whatever size you decide is best for you, go 200-300 rpms higher and you will be happy. Daily drove a vig 4000-4200 and then ptc 4000. Absolutely bad ***, stalled autos is where its at.
Do not go with some low quality converter. Ptc, vig, yank, circle d, fti, etc etc.. Not tci... etc lol you know.

i have yank ss 4000 converter and its a very loose converter, performs awesome at the track but its annoying to drive in town. Never really been happy with it and gas mileage sucks.
