Thumbs down yank sportsman pro tranny

I bought on of these things for 1800 bux --not to sponsor bash but the thing went out within 10k--so i take it to a tranny guy i know "very well respected in the drag raceing scene" he pulls it apart and called me down there to look at the CRAPPY wimpy parts in it --there isnt more than 100bux worth of upgraded parts in there over the factory--now for 1800 bux and a reputation
you would think they would put proper parts for the abuse they will see
6 disc 3/4 ? why not 9 like everyone else - the 3-4 check ball was still in it !whimpy sun shell - 13 vain pump "cracked" 13 vains are weaker" nothing done in the acumilators --not even a trans go kit in the thing-my stock one lasted far longer
so now i have to dump another 500 bux into this thing to get it done right
they claim 500rwt on these --Um no friggen way! sorry man i really get peaved when i get burned
I just dont know how they can sleep at night
sorry for the bash but WTF guys--but i dont want someone else to be out 2300$ like me --it cant be an isolated case -since the trannys are all built the same way-there is absolutly nothing hard core in them

Ditto, you might find this interesting https://ls1tech.com/forums/ls1tech-sponsor-feedback/147119-yank-where-my-refund.html

I'm sure some day I may purchase another converter or part from them but I am sure glad he only takes check or money order now.

They make good converters, but from what I've seen their transmissions don't come close to an FLP or speed inc 4L60E

Yea, their trannies are pretty much junk from what I have seen posted on here. The converters aren't any better than the cheaper ones as well IMO.

Man that's a joke. Can't believe they Yanked $2300 out of ya for it. Sucks bro. Do they say that there are specific internals in them? May be working themselves into a law suit if so. I paid $1400 for my built tranny. Granted I had a recent issue where my servo punched a hole in the side of my Alto Red ripping the 4th gear seal and screwing a bunch of stuff up. At least I knwo the parts I paid for are in there.

yup and they never state what parts are in it --they just state that it will hold up to 500ftlbs -no friggen way --and you would think it would have beefy parts in it to get it to hold to that much--well needless to say i'm only just over 400
ftlbs -and it didnt last very long-

I ran that exact tranny for almost 3 years. Couple hundred 1.5 60ft's and 40K daily driver miles. Whatever the parts that were in it.. it worked for me.

Car setup/tuning has ALOT to do with tranny life..

WilWaxu then you got luckey --my tranny guy showed me all the stock parts that are in it -There is no 2 ways about it "its built like crap" nothing they do to them warrants the price tag they put on them -hell i coulda built a stonger tranny -nice it worked ok for you but anyone else that has had one -it fried way to fast--and my car was tuned by one of this boards biggest sponsors "and i know he did it right because I was there when he did all the editing on the dyno" yah my car is 200+ lbs heavier than yours -but i ran the same times as your sig states --but if it were built right and was built to handle the hp's -i dont know about you guys if i buy a high perf tranny it best have high perf. parts in it --so i guess thats my beef with them --if it had the correct parts in it for the aplication it claimed to be for -i wouldnt be bitching about it--hell my stock one was in better shape than this one was --my stocker had 30k of pure azz pounding miles --this one less than 4k
and the guy who showed me this thing inside said "I've never see a 4l60E ware out the 1/2 pack" and I never seen one with such cheezy parts
also went on to say that he has seen speed incs and flps and said they put the correct parts in for the anticipated abuse they are going to recieve
Sportman trannys are a joke compared to those 2

Mine blew at less than a year. I raced it twice, did one high speed run, and have the mods listed in the sig. What a piece d'shitte'

Now I'm back to stock, getting rid of this car and getting a six speed.

Sorry to hear about the tranny . I hate to say Ive seen trannys from lots of places blow in under 100 miles with all the aftermarket parts including some named in this thread. as far as the 6 clutch setup that might be the blue plate special clutches. There are 6 of them instead of 9 but they claim they hold the same or more power. Ive had MANY stage 2 and 3 trannys take dumps on me in alot less time then you got. There are many of us out there that have suffered with crap trannys.

Good Luck with the new guy and on fixing the tranny up . Ill also add to this day my best Transmission was my bone stock one. Just something to think about.

WILWAXU, when you say 'tuning', are you refering to adding to much line pressure with tuning (as some do) hurting the trans? What type of tuning are you refering to? Just wondering what you're thinking is good/bad, since you obviously did a pretty good job of making that trans last

Thanks.

I LOVE MY FLP Level IV..... BUT I LOVE YANK's converters. As far as trans go there is NO WAY to go wrong with the FLP ............ but you should have thought about it when they say 500ftlbs....... stock is supposedly good for like 450 I beleive.

Just bite your tongue and spend the 2K for the FLP..... and what its worth don't take their advice and use the Vigi converter.... I hate mine....... use a Yank.

FLP tried to talk me into a Vig also, but I was insistant on keeping my Yank. I'm sure the Vig is a fine 'verter quality wise, but Yank makes great 'verters too, and Vig has nothing even comparable to the low STR of a SY3500, which is perfect for my street tire setup.....
