will an ls2 timing cover and cam position sensor work? what else will i need to convert to ls2 without vvt?

Cover, chain and 3 bolt gear, 3 bolt cam, ls7 or some lifters, LS2 or 3 valley cover.

you dont need to change the chain, lifters, or the valley cover. And you only need a 3 bolt gear IF you are going to use a 3 bolt cam, there are single bolt gears that you can use if you have a single bolt cam.

i am swapping to a 3 bolt cam and ls7 lifters. will the vvt valley cover work?

Like they said, you do not have to run the three bolt gear, but since you're going to buy a new cam gear anyway, save yourself some headache and go three-bolt. I can't tell you how many people mess up the single bolt install (push dowel in too far is main problem).
