Default Valve seat/cup locator question

I'm reinstalling some comp 921's on my car. I ordered the 4995 spring locator which comp calls for. They look like this;

This has the correct inside diameter to locate it on the guide. The problem is the inside has a lip that goes up the guide. I had to shim my springs so much I can't drive the valve seal all the way on the guide because it hits the inside of the locator

I have another set but they are cups and look like this;

These were on the car before but they do not have the correct inner diameter which let them walk around. Coupled with my incorrect spring height the springs destroyed the seal.

What I am needing is a cup style locator that has a stock inner diameter for stock diameter springs/921's.

Thanks for any help.

Jason

Two questions, how much shim are you adding? Have you looked into the offset retainer/keeper setup? You may be able to pick up 0.050" if the correct parts are available plus provide better rocker arm clearance to the retainer.

I talked to Shane@Thunder Racing tonight and he mentioned of offset retainers to reduce the spring height. I can drive the seal on the guide probably 1/2-2/3 the way on. He said as long as I have adequate seal/retainer clearance it doesn't have to be installed all the way down.

I am going to check tonight when I get home.

Based on the post above, PAC has the parts to shift the retainer down 0.050" but you need to ensure it clears the seals.
