Default Traction Control

Does anyone know if a 98 Z28 came stock with traction control or not? When i drop to 2nd at 50mph my low track light comes on and stays on almost until 5th gear. Is that traction control, or am i just loosing grip because of crappy rubber?

I would say losing traction because of crappy rubber. If you have trac control you will a button labeled TCS above your stereo, by the Camaro badge. Get some new tires before you kill someone! LOL

I think its called "ASC" or "ASR" on the Camaro. If it bothers you, you can turn it off, but it will turn back on the next time you start the car unless you install a logic reversal module.

I'm pretty sure that if you have a 'low trac' light at all, you have traction control - if that helps.

LOWTRAC is the ABS sensing wheel slip - If you DO NOT have an ASR button and the "ASR OFF" light when it's turned off, you DON'T have ASR (Traction Control).

Just look for the button....

No button=no traction control
The presence of a button=traction control

I have it on my Y2K, and I've never really paid that much attention while riding in my buddy's '98 that doesn't have it. I'd have to guess that a "low traction" light would have to mean you have the traction control. But that's just my guess....

Does the car try to push the gas pedal up towards you when the light comes on (like you were letting off the gas)? If so, then you definitely have traction control.

i believe the ASR (traction controll) was only an option in 98 and if im not mistaken again in 99. If im not mistaken after 99 it became a standard from teh factory. I have ASR onmy 98 z28 but i have power everything, cruise control, a/c u know the "luxury" camaro package lol haha if that aint an oxymoron i dunno what is.

Low Trac is the abs system telling you "hey focker, your wheels are slippin'". get some better rubber on those back tires and your problem would be solved. discounttiredirect.com at the right with the rest of our sponsers has great prices on tires.
Good luck safe driving

I have ASR on my 1995 (first year option I think)... its either located just below your heater vents (just above your radio I think) (1997+ years) or in front of your shifter with the cigerette lighter (1995,1996).

ASR is traction control and if you turn it off you will have a light on that says ASR OFF, if you leave it on and spin your tires, the pedal will kick back up at you and a LOW TRAC light will come on, but if you do not have ASR you will not have an ASR OFF light but you will still have the LOW TRAC light because it will also come on if you brake and the ABS comes on

Yup, that guy is off.

Its like the others have said. The "Low Trac" light is just to let you know ABS has intervened.

Plus I also think that this thread was well answered when it trailed off the first time --- 7 months ago.

Not exactly. I get the "low trac" light when I downshit on the highway.
