Default Choosing a Buffer and Wax..

Wanted to get some scratches out from towels and possible some deeper ones..Any suggestions on a buffer and wax treatment? I am not a skilled detailer, and have never used a high speed buffer..so I am concerned about burning the clear coat. What up with the Porter Cable, will that get deeper scratches out?

The porter cable coupled with Menzerna Intensive and Final polish will eliminate all of your fine scratches - anything deeper than the clear coat requires touch-up paint work.

What he said..

The porter cable unit WILL NOT ever have a chance of burning through your clear or paint.. well unless your using very gritty compound (which you wouldnt)..

I my Porter Cable

Does it do as good of job in taking scratches out as a high speed buffer? Which PC are you talking about?

A high speed buffer can blend clear coat and eliminate orange peel with one pass of a heavy compound. A Porter Cable machine even with a coarse pad and a heavy cut compound will take forever.

Get the Porter Cable and a decent polish for weekly details and light to heavy swirls. Scratches are a different ball game, even a rotary can fix deep scratches, they need to be filled.

PC = Porter Cable

It will not take out deep scratches.. then again it wont swirl and burn your paint.. its a trade off

Removing light scratches and swirls is what its for.. for bad stuff seek a professional.

Sorry for the newbie question...but do you guys wax the car with these each time? I mean, do you use the buffer to apply the stuff, then another pad to buff it off? SOrry...im car-show-retarded.........or show-car-retarded.

Waxing is different than polishing - polishing removes the scratches and "cleans" the surface to some extent. After you polish you need to follow up by hand with a wax/sealant. I usually apply these by hand with a foam pad as I find it easier.
