Default 2.2 swap into a Vega

I know it's not an lx anything but has anyone swapped a 2.2l Chevy into anything? I have a decent original Vega and a complete 2.2 with 5 speed. And the motor in the Vega needs some work. If it's not to much work I wouldn't mind doing the swap. Anyone have any advice??

im pretty sure I have seen 2.2 swaps (just cant think of a example at the moment) this was fairly common with the quad four as well. regardless the solstice should have most of what you would need to make this work

I really hate being "that guy"... but can't imagine a ~'95 2.2 being worth the time. Sure it wouldn't be too hard w/ a S-10 transmission, just mounts and getting a computer for it. Just don't see the effort being worth the level of performance you'd get out of it.

I like free. Not sure what we could offer for advice other than take easy and enjoy the project. Hardest part w/ any FI engine is getting it up and running. After that, smooth sailing.

Free is a big plus. I have done a lot of 1.8L bmw swaps into the mid 70s BMWs and just getting rid of the carb and having EFI is so much nicer. I say go for it. Do the 2.2 engines like boost.....maybe a cheap turbo setup?

Turbo has crossed my mind but the swap alone is going to be challenging for me. Maybe a turbo if I ever get it running. I have the computer and everything. Need to decide if i want to buy a header or just run the stock manifold. First I should probably just do some measuring and mocking up to see how it all fits

harness?? Delete anything such as egr maf02 sensors??

To get a powertrain to operate just as nicely in <older vehicle> as it does in <newer vehicle,> your mindset should be "how can I make this engine believe it's in <newer vehicle> when it's not.

EGR is a benefit to mileage and combustion temperature. I'm not saying there's no time and place to delete it, but when doing a known-good-running engine swap, it's no starting point.

MAF allows for more capable fuel mapping than MAP only. I'm not saying there's no time and place to delete it, but it's no starting point.

The whole reason to do a late model engine is because it runs stronger and goes farther on fuel. EGR, MAF and O2 sensors are reasons for that.

On top of that, read more threads here regarding "what will I need from the donor." A lot carries over to non-V8 powertrains.

Some things are best done tediously so you know your vehicle and how to troubleshoot it when it is a hybrid. Locate wiring diagrams of donor and recipient. I'm no electrical wizard but I can get things done.

So basically I just need to put everything in. Just making it all fit nice will probably be time a chore

Also what kind of fuel pump modification and tank modification will be needed?? If this gets to be to much of a project I think I'm going to bow out. I don't really have a lot of resources anymore since I moved. And I wanted to do it on the cheap.....

I think I can make the factory fuel pump from the s-10 work. It's not much longer then the stock Vega one

I think I've seen info that the flex fuel 2.2L S10 pump used on some LS swaps, so that's a good move.

Cats - need to delete the codes in the PCM (for when the rear O2 senses cat failure) (better) or run a SIM O2 post-cat (less ideal)

Anything else I will be able to delete out of the computer? And also will the gauges work with the New motor?? I know I'll just have to try it all but if anyone knows it might save me some time
