Default Can someone help me pick a new turbo out?

I got a tc78 now, I make about 640whp at 12 lbs. Its a rocket dont get me wrong but i can feel it start to drop off up top so its pretty much maxed out. I think mostly of the 68mm exhaust wheel. My bottom end is being rebuilt in about 3weeks, it'll be 8.9 to 1 and able to hold 1200whp. Which the tc78 will never get me anywhere close to that.

So heres what i want....

1. A turbo around the same physical size maybe slightly bigger, like a 1inch or so in each direction

2. Capable to making my heads,cam,370 hit my goal of 1000whp.

3. Spool good, i know it'll never be like my tc78 but man i dont want a dog ya know

4. be a good name brand

5. Now most importantly,, CHEAP! Ill have around 1k to spend.

I was waiting for the new tc78 with the 76mm exhaust wheel and just pushing it but ive been waiting for 3 or 4 months now and turbonectics just added another 3 months to the wait.

AS of right now im hoping to find a pt88 or some tricked out borg warner but i know they are huge and heavy so that sucks. I know guys have been talking about s430's or s400 or something but im lost on those.

st80, gt47-88, pt88 etc... single
62mm-76mm for twins
Alot of options...for a street car to spool fast go twins. for a main track car go a big single and push it. Like a pt88 will go ape sh*t after 15lbs on a 370

I highlighted your key areas in bold and that turbo does not exsist. All of us are looking for that unicorn. PT76 is probably the closes you will come it's about 1/2" bigger in diameter and has made 900 + rwhp through a m6. Than again its not a $1000 turbo or going to make 1k rwhp through a stalled auto.

ya 1k wheel and 1000bucks doesn't match. I guess I could maybe do it with a big borg warner but nothing compact.

I'm liking the pt88 idea a lot. I might have to sell my tc78 and save up though, unless I found a deal on a used one. Now on a pt76 is that te pt gts76 everyone talks about? Is is a pt76 the larger frame on?

ST80, something you should consider.

PT76 is the same thing as the 76gts and precision now calls it a 7675. Not even close to a large frame, it's still a small frame, but I consider GT55 and BWSX500 large frame. It's about .300" bigger per side, around a 7.5" diameter on the compressor cover. The borg T4 stuff jumps up to a 10" diameter on the compressor. Pt 88 has the same compressor cover as the 76gts but it has a much bigger bearing housing and exhaust housing. With the 76gts it will drop right in and use your existing down pipe / vband. Only change will be needing a 3" coupler on the compressor outlet vs the 2.5" of the tc. Its the same turbo NicD runs and hes gone 9.0 @ 151 or so, and Skinnies has gone 8.65 @ 167 I think.

I vote PT-88 with an a/r housing approx. (1.**) Just figure out how you want it to spool. And if youll have enough cam.
