well if you were closer, I would say that I have the 5.3 short block with choice of heads (ls1, 5.3, or truck 6.0) but I dont want to ship.

Even though you might find a good deal online, I would opt for a good used motor from somewhere nearby. This gives you the advantage of showing up with your compression gauge to pretest & inspect. If you buy from a boneyard, see if they offer a 30 day guarantee to return the motor if it turns out to be defective.
There are so many things that can go wrong, that these advantages make sense. Patience and waiting for the right one will go a long way.
I bought mine long distance from a suppossedly reputable place.
They deceived me from the get go. While this stuff can happen to anyone, you are stuck with a long distance transaction (an expensive one) that you have very limited control over.

Before you buy one, inspect all the plastic sensors and parts on the top end of the engine VERY carefully. In most junkyards, these are normally broken off during storage or transit.

Examples are the TB connector, IAC valve, MAP sensor... It can be a few hundred dollars more if you have to start replacing these.

Gotcha. Everything near me is ridiculous. Atleast junkyards, engines with 100k plus are still unreasonable. 5.3s with that mileage are 800 or more. Maybe ill start looking into states close by
