Mags are good, i personally like the flowmaster super 44s. Great flow with great "in the middle sound". Deep throaty with no drone.

The Ls based engines seem to be louder than the older GM engines. Not sure if its the increased air flow or what exactly. I would probably look at the Magnaflow mufflers as well.

another vote for magnaflow. Have run them on all my conversions and i've been happy. had flowmaster 50's on a car we built for a customer and aside from idle, i was not happy with the sound

I think you would be very happy with the 14" body. The 20" body is rather large when installed. I use the Magnaflow on my 1998 5.9 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 14" body and really like it. Not really too loud. No drone inside the truck. I also picked up the Magnaflow with the 14" body for my conversion with the 3" inlet and outlet. Rich
