Default LS1 vs. LY6...need to buy this weekend.

I have nothing. Build will be 3100# car with a th350 trans and 8" converter. I've been priced both the ls1 and ly6 for the same money. From what I've read the ls1 has more compression but heads aren't as good as ly6. This will be a carb application. Which one should I go with?

LY6 ftw, no replacement for displacement. I wish someone would have helped me when I had to make the decision

Actually the way it has worked out is that I can end up with a LS1 with PRC ported heads for the same money as the stock LY6, both would need cam upgrade.

Should I still go LY6?

.3L isn't a lot of displacement there are many ways to make up for that.

I would go for the alum block 5.7l over an iron block 6.0 if the price was the same. Ported heads on the 5.7 would give me even more of a reason to go with the ls1.

4" bore with the iron block also iron block can go .030 if need be and gm rates the iron block to hold more horsepower. So.... throw some l92 heads on a lq9 block and go.

Imo go with the ly6. More ci capacity, bigger breathing bore
Stronger, crank, rods and pistons. Better design rods and pistons
Heads flow more than the heads u mentioned as cast
U mentioned, cam will be needed anyway with either motor.
The l92 heads can b milled up to .030, combined with a thinner ls2 gasket will raise scr significantly, up to .5
Also if goin with th350/400 ly6 does not need the flexplate spacer
Can bolt the plate strait to crank flange, and use sbc tq converter.
The rest of the spacing is made up on the tq converter mounting feet with shims.
Seems pretty no brainer to me

Prorac,
Bout how thick do u think that spacer/hub was?
The crank flange on the gen 4 ly6 motors is significantly thicker than gen3 motors.
On the lq4 motors, the spacer is about.400 thick when comes mounted with 80e.
So that means the ly6 spacer should be thinner than the old lq4 ones

4" bore motors have more potential for better heads and lower end torque. i would go with that motor, if you plan to change the heads later. you will also be able to put a bigger cam on this motor and still be a daily driver.
