Default can I push it even further!!??

Need some help from the forced induction gurus here. Here is a list of what ive got.
520rwhp stock bottom LS1 (with ARP rod bolts)
P1SC @ 6 psi 6 rib setup twin intercooled
AEM water/meth injection 50/50 mixture
previous owner says cam is a B1 Comp cam 221/221 558/558 114LSA
stock 853 heads with ( or so i was told)comp cam 918 titanium springs
Z06 pushrods
Ls6 intake & 80mm BBK TB
headers and blah blah and alot of other small stuff

My questions are will a set of stock 317 heads (reusing the springs and pushrods) work along with raising the boost to around 10 Psi (have'nt decided if to do it with the P1 or go D1). Also, is the cam specs ideal for my setup or no?..car is my DD but has ran as fast as 11.3 at the track ..have'nt ran it yet since i put in the Moser 12 with 3.90 gears. thanks for any help

oh and i'm looking to get 600 RWHP out of the stock bottom (hoping the ARP rod bolts will be enough to help it hold).

600rwhp is not a problem on your setup. We do them weekly on Vette's. Blower/Cam/methenol 10-12lbs of boost. Do not lower the static compression.

do not lower the compression??..as in the 317 heads are a bad idea?..i want it to last as well since my car is also my DD and I thought lowering the compression with some 317 heads will make it a lil more safe?..your thoughts?. Also, do the 10 to 12lbs of boost cars you guys do last in terms of years and not just months?..I plan to get a Texas Seed 347 later down the road but it's not in immediate future.

We have about 20-30 Vette's out there making 650+rwhp and have been for over 4 years.

Blowers raise compression. Why lower compression so you can make more boost to make up for the lost power?

I'm not BSing you. Nowadays it's common for us to run 10lbs on 11-1 compression centrifical cars with no failures. Just make sure you have a good fuel system.

well, no I dont' think you are BSing me at all..you guys seem to run a very reputable shop and I never argue with ppl who do performance work for a living because i'm sure you guys know your ****. I just figured 317 heads because alot of other blower/turbo guys are running those heads and seem to have sucess as well as my stock 853's suuuck ballz and the 317's will give me better flow as well as lowering the compression wich I assumed was what you wanted to do with a blower car. I'm aware that lowering compression will also make me loose a lil HP , I figured an extra lb or 2 of boost would make up for what I lost along with giving it a lil more..umm life expectancy is the phrase best suited lol...so you think I should skip the 317's and go for some 243's?..doing a budget build of course and like the idea of using stock GM heads over 2,000$ aftermarket ones. As far as fuel system goes it's a racetronix pump with 60lb injectors, all the other fuel doohickey's are stock such as rails, lines, ect..thanks for any more advice you may post later.

since i'm running water/meth along with my regular air to air intercoolers i'm leaning more towards jumping from 6 to 12 psi instead of just 10, also may or may not try hitting my 600+rwhp goal with the 853's or going to 317's..still not sure on this as the 317's seem to be the route alot of FI budget guys take for head choice.

We made 615 rwhp with an old style P1 on a stock LS6 bottom end with AFR 205s and a lumpy cam, at just under 7 psi, on pump gas, no meth

Your stock heads dont 'suck' that bad...look into a good blower cam and keep the stock heads in place.

yeah I could see how the AFR heads helped that setup alot vs mine leaving the stock heads on there is causing me ATLEAST 30hp loss. If I keep my stock heads I would definately need to run 10+psi to hit my 600+RWHP goal and I'm still not sure if the cam I'm running now is ideal enough to be called a "blower cam".The cam and procharger where already on this car when I bought it ( I have done alot of mods to it since bought tho) and I have some understanding of cam's and desired specs for a NA setup but a FI cam is all new to me...any FI cam spec Guru's out there reading this?..lol, thanks for everyones info and advice

the cam in my car is a B1 Comp cam 221/221 558/558 114LSA (or so the previous owner whom installed it claimed) ..i need to know if this is a decent cam to be running with boost or do i need to just go ahead and get a custom cam for my setup..i may need to take this question to the Cam section since i'm not getting very many answers in the FI section.

may car is doing fine so far. i plan on adding meth, a 4.00" pulley, and maybe a new intake like a FAST and doing a retune next spring. looking for 630-650rwhp and im on the stock short block with 853 castings also. id like to hit 9-10psi. ill be running 100% meth, from what ive read, running a mixture is kind of pointless. so hopefully the bitch will last all spring/summer like that, then its time to forge it this time next year. O, and im on a D1 also. Good luck!

also, on that cam, id buy something with a little more duration and just a little more lift. Bobs blower cam from "brutespeed" is a popular choice. I have a torquer V3 which is 231/234 .648.598 111lsa, and it does fine. i baught my cam before i had the intention of going FI. I would of baught bobs cam if FI was in the plans to begin with. \

good info there buddy, if you are making 571 @ only 5.5 psi on the 853 heads, then my car should do wonders on 10-12 psi..I may be looking into doing 100% meth as well but I have yet to find out if my cam is good spec wise or if it's holding me back..i'm still not sure if i should try running the 12 psi on the P1 or just do a D1 for overall flow

ok that cam from brutespeed sounds nice, if i could get a couple ppl who are using this cam to chime in and give their experience and power with boost then i may just get that cam

ya, like i said, that cam seems pretty small for FI, hell that cam is small for NA....lol. i would see what that P1 does at 12psi first before u go swapping blowers. You may be surprised with the results you get. if your not satisfied, then upgrade the blower.

do a quick search, there are alot of ppl who run it. Try giving bob a call on monday and talk to him. Hes a good guy to work with and he'll set ya straight.

well, from the little understanding I have from cams is that you dont' want a 600+lift cam or one that has alot of overlap on a LS1..although I could be waay off here but a big cam is'nt ideal for a DD FI stock headed, stock bottomed LS1..like i said tho , i may be waay over in left feild here.I may just give Bob a call and see what they can do for me when i do decide to tackle this (tax time woot!).

from what ive read..

198/197 .478/.478 115LSA

is stock cam specs on ur yea LS1.

Anything in the low 230's duration is considered a mild cam. Overlap...ive heard it both ways. ive heard alot of overlap will cause you to lose boost, but, they were talking like a 109lsa.... most boost cams are in the 114-117 LSA. so even that 220 cam is still small. i DD my car in the summer and i dont have any driveability problems. and most will say that i have an nonboost friendly cam, but it works well so far for me. My blower, cam, and gears, all shine at 3k and up, so 3k up pulls are ridiculous lol. Dont get caught up in cam stuff. Get bobs cam and call it a day. and your right, you dont need high lift cam like mine to make power.
