Default Fox body Mustang/4L60E Drive shaft Options

Does anyone make an off the shelf unit or is this a custom made only?
I have both the Mustang D/S with appropriate rear U-joint/flange and I kept the aluminum D/S from the donor 98 Z28. I was gonna wait until I installed the motor/trans and see if I could make 1 out of the 2 (Long shot I know).

Would be nice if someone sold an off the shelf unit though considering the momentum these conversions are getting.

I had a custom steel driveshaft made to handle whatever i threw at it, with a yoke for a t56 and the flange for an 8.8 cut to the perfect length, cost me $325 so IMO there is no point in skimping on it.

Would be a bit silly for anyone to make a specific driveshaft for the swap. Considering all the options to swap these cars that are available, you could end up with several different possible lengths. Get out your tape measure.

I can and will get out the tape measure, the goal here is to get as many parts stock piled to make the installation as painless as possible. I figured someone here may have installed an LS1 with a 4L60 and know of a shop that already has the dimensions or 2, could tell me if there is a factory shaft that would work with swapping out the flanges/U joints.

I do my best to help others with information that I have learned the hard/expensive way and have searched the site and found very little info regarding drive shafts. I am fine with having a custom one made but on the slim chance that there are alternative options, I would like to know about them.

What I was told was the the stock 5.0 5 speed driveshaft will work with a Precision U-joint 353, and strange U1661 yoke.

Yup, what bjamick said. Was really simple actually,I used the stock DS to set the final position of the motor/trans and welded up the motor mounts.

Id be a tad concerned putting a driveshaft in an ls swapped car when the driveshaft came from a car rated at 200 flywheel hp. I measured mine for a custom driveshaft and had it on the car in less the 24 hours for $325. It takes no time at all for a driveshaft shop to make one and balance it.

Ya, I understand what you're saying. My point is no one could give you a number for you to cut and weld too. There's a lot of potential variables. If you post up your exact parts list, perhaps someone who has the same exact setup could measure their's for you.

Lots of people have ran single digits in stick foxes, with those 200 hp rated driveshafts.

Default any updates

I got the 353 u joint and for the gm yoke caps are way to small I am going to get part #355 that looks to be correct cap size. I also tried to fit stock foxbody drive shaft and seems to long like I have to have 2 3/4 taken out of it my combo is Aje k member 4l60 truck trans 2 WD and Aje cross member 89 notchback

Sorry to dredge up an old thread. But since this thread doesn't have an answer yet...anybody that searches in the future they might find this info useful if it is answered. So you can ignore this thread (specifically me bringing it back up) unless this is somehow useful to you.

LS swapped 1990 fox, stock rear in stock location, ls with custom motor mounts that place the passenger head almost exactly 1" from the firewall. Needed the stock driveshaft from a 5.0/AOD car cut to 42" and used a 372 precision brand u joint to connect the 4l60e yoke to the stock fox shaft.

Bringing this thread back from the dead, how did your custom DS perform ? Did you have any drive line vibration? Did you use stock K member?

Yes, stock K member with custom adapter plate mounts. Uses stock 4.6 mount on the 5.0 k member.
The driveshaft wasn't really custom. It was the stock driveshaft from the AOD. it was just shortened, balanced, and installed with new U joints

It's been a few thousand miles, made some drag passes, and countless burnouts. Never skipped a beat

What was the length of the AOD driveshaft from the 5.0 do you remember? Were you measuring 42" from u joint centers?

Custom plates as in you made them / had them made, or off a vendor? Looking into ordering the mounts shown in link but it says to use on 4.6 k-member only. Just not sure if they will work with 5.0 k-member, if they do then I'll probably order them. Also, did you use the stock LS headers or custom LT headers? Thanks in advance!
